How many chartered flights can we/nrl afford though? I was under the assumption the next flight would be in a few months time to bring family over, hence us taking like 30 players in one go

I don't see why they'd need a charter flight for 2 players. Could probably make arrangements to bring them over on commercial flights, have them do a fortnight in quarantine if they need to.

I know there's people that will say they're not making a sacrifice, they're well-paid players etc, others have lost their jobs...and I get that. But to me, these guys (especially the family men) are doing a massive thing in terms of what they're doing. I couldn't go months on end not seeing my kids. Especially when they're young, you miss moments that never happen again.

They have my full respect, even if results don't go our way.

I have no inside information, but I doubt it'll be that long before trans-tasman flights are up and going again. I think they'll be able to come back in June- which is still not at all a small thing. But hopefully they'll be able to sleep in their own beds and see their kids before the season is up.

It's more the uncertainty that's difficult.

Also, did you see some of the nasty comments on the Warriors social media. 'Shame on you because we can't travel'. People are dickheads sometimes.

I stay off our social media site. Their social media guy is woeful for a start. And the comments are potentially even worse.

This pandemic has really alerted me to the failings of humanity. I should point out it's also exposed the generosity and kindness of some...but man. Social media has been a cluster f**k. Fake news is a cluster f**k. People who think they can do whatever the f**k they like. People acting like they're in charge of upholding the law with notebooks, camera phones whatever. Ministers acting like cock heads - Health minister going for a nice bike ride, that Labour muppet who said small business have themselves to blame, and just Simon Bridges in general.

The idea of a bubble and staying in it will live on with me well past this. Not in terms of public interaction, but just in terms of it's a big bad silly world sometimes.

Look we once sent many young men overseas gave them and gun and shoot at these guys.

I know I have spent months away to earn coin, to young for wars.

That said I defend to death thier right not to participate, I do appreciatethe ones that will but most certainly hold no grudge if they choose not to.

I'm not sure that's relevant mate. We used to keep slaves in the house too.

They didn't sign up for months away from home. I know there's going to be people who say they're well paid, suck it up and all that (not you). And that's their perspective. But I'm not sure those zeroes in their online bank account will provide them the same companionship as their family. Love and belonging, right up there in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. For some that'll be satisfied by team mates. For some it won't.

Put it this way - Stacey will be missing his family big time. Does that humanise it for you?

Yep; agree with all that.
But they were given a choice. Go and earn money or stay with the family. Happens all over the place.
They all chose to go. Nobody was forced.
Now let's get the job done.

Yeah, the comparisons to wartime trite IMO

Sure, they had a choice, I suppose- but it's not a great one at all. 'Leave home and family for an indefinite period of time in the midst of a global crisis and stay in the Mecure hotel in Tamworth or don't get paid'

They deserve our support.

I'm not sure it's that easy. If it was an individual sport, you might've seen more people pull out. These guys are a tight group, no one would've wanted to let their mates down. And they've decided to go as you say, so good luck to them. I hope they consider the mental and emotional consequences as much as the physical over there, as I said there's going to be guys who struggle big time. I don't know if the club has a psychologist/mental skills coach in that regard.

Meth is right, they deserve our 100% support. They've got mine, and a tonne of respect.

Looks like a trans-tasman bubble is not far away https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12329587

Any of you guys been to Tamworth? Closest comparison I can think of would be being told you had to go and spend spend a few months in Invercargill but with slightly better weather

This is what we're dealing with. These guys are going to find it very hard to train for, and play footy with the mental hardship. I really don't think we can expect lot come May 28.

I was watching Warriors TV last night & a few of the players were wishing their Mum's & Wives Happy Mother's Day for this Sunday. It was tough to watch. Some of it was heartbreaking. We are in an impossible situation. I just hope the leaders can really get around them and it really bring us together. Reality is, we have a weak squad & I don't expect much in the way of on-field success.

The bit that I find annoying is that is the NRL had been run as a business properly, the game wouldn't be in this situation. But hey, lets no open up that can of worms!

I think there's a chance it will be bind them together, they'll develop a bunker mentality and they might go ok despite the village idiots running the team.

I just don't think the human mind works that way. Look at the Sonny Fai year in 2009. Those guys truly believed they would go out and honour Sonny. I was there listening to them say it. But it's not sustainable - the heartache, the negative part of your brain overpowers you. It might be OK to go out and smash it out for a game under those circumstances but not 18.

100%. It's heart breaking. And I get angry when I read or hear people say suck it up, they're well paid, it's not forever. The mind and the heart doesn't give a f**k. You can't throw money at it to not feel homesick, to not miss your family, there's not a price that makes missing milestones OK. I've heard Blake Green talk about how his boy didn't want to let him go, same from Adam Blair and Tohu Harris. I'm a parent, I get it. I was away for a week last year and it sucked.

Not sure what you mean by the last part because I haven't followed it. How have the NRL made things worse?

I think I've said it before on here but I'm going to say it again. I don't see us doing very well at all when things kick off again. We're renowned as a mentally weak squad and we just won't have the mental strength to get past all the barriers we're facing as a team. Sure we might get some warm fuzzies from being "everyone's second favourite team" but that's just a pity vote. Maybe I'm just being too pessimistic but the proof will be in the pudding...

Couldn't agree more. I'm not being negative, because these guys now have my respect for the hardship (and it is, before anyone wants to argue it - some of the squad more than others) they're going through to keep playing.

But we're not a good rugby league team. And we've been mentally weak in the past. We have more barriers than other teams, it's just not going to happen. It would be the greatest achievement in the history of sports if we got anywhere near the playoffs (I realise that's hyperbole, but it'd be incredible). The 2011 Crusaders couldn't manage it and neither will we.

If Invercargill was good enough for the Rolling Stones, then Tamworth should be at least OK for the Warriors.

But seriously, morale will be sapped pretty quickly when they start losing. For starters, you're stuck in camp with guys you know aren't putting in.
