The Warriors scored off two plays early. Johnson was heavily involved with both.
From there Mannering and Blair combine to be lazy and are gassed by DWZ, Luke kicks out on the full, Kata makes three first half errors, RTS goes off injures, and from Katas errors the Warriors don’t see the ball for 20 minutes.
Yet that’s all Johnson’s fault and yet I don’t even recall Blake Green playing frankly.
I agree in part that he never consistently delivered on his potential so I can see why they didn’t think he’s a million dollar man. But the timing of Cameron George’s comments on Radiosport while Shaun was in England and the general rhetoric and tone thereafter imo simply was disrespectful to a player of his experience. Perhaps they would never have bargained him down but the mob like hustler mentality they displayed throughout appeared poorly thought out and executed. Very similar in some ways to the way Ali Lauitiiti was forced out.
Everything is was and always has been Shaun’s fault. Even when it wasn’t. I look forward to him getting space behind for once a good set of forwards. I’m sure he can dominate.
I'm a big SJ fan and will continue to be, but I think this isn't a situation where we can solely blame one side.
Was it SJ's fault we lost against Penrith? Ofcourse not. Did he have a proper dig and show why he's a million dollar elite player? Also no.
He's shown time and time again to be quite a petulant person...the Fitler comments and the 'youse got your way' comments highlighting this. Even though I do believe the Warriors handled this poorly, speaking to media when SJ was over seas etc., that doesn't justify his 'grant me a release or I don't put in' conversation.
Who started the whole drama? Who was worse?
These questions don't really matter imo, I think it's a shame how everything went down, but I think we can all see that both parties appear to be better off parting ways.
I hope SJ smashes it in the future and his game lifts to another level. He's one of the best players to watch on his day.
I also hope the Warriors' new hardline approach produces results and we continue to move upwards from here. There is life after SJ
