Warriors win trial against Souths.

Two tries in the space of four minutes from Warriors winger Manu Vatuvei helped set up a 22-14 NRL trial win against South Sydney in Coffs Harbour on Saturday night.
A dour first half gave no indication of the ten minutes of attacking fireworks last year's grand finalists produced soon after the main interval.
Konrad Hurrel showed he's ready for the step up from Toyota Cup with a try before Vatuvei produced the highlight for the 5000 plus crowd.
Shortly after running on to a grubber kick from Kevin Locke to score, Vatuvei received a pass on the outside of Souths co-captain Matt King 70m from the try line.
Vatuvei burst down the left wing, easily bounced off fullback Kurt French then headed for the line.
The Warriors fielded a strong team for the evening while Souths coach Michael Maguire chopped and changed the 27 players he named for the clash.

The Warriors will probably need to find a replacement for Sam Rapira though.
The prop injured his left shoulder early and is unlikely to recover in time for the pening round in three weeks.
NZ WARRIORS 22 (M Vatuvei 2 S Mannering K Hurrel tries S Johnson 2 J Maloney goals) bt SOUTH SYDNEY 14 (D Taylor K French A Everingham tries D Farrell goal) at BCU International Stadium Coffs Harbour. Crowd: 5,376.

When they say 'winger' Manu, were they meaning his traditional position, or did he play there? Did the try out at centre not happen?

S**t, Steve Rapira out as well, who the hell will be our props for the first game, we have Matulino, Packer and probably Ta'ai, but who after that, Sione Louisi maybe, at this rate we will be down to one prop left before the first game of the season. Wish they hadn't let go of Gavet, Latimore and Poching, where is Poching by the way, would he be able to be signed quickly if necessary.

I would say they'll need to see if they can sign a prop from somewhere. You lose another one, you're absolutely shot.

At the moment you'd have a rotation of Matulino, Packer, Lousi and Ta'ai I'd say.

Taukiaho could be worth a shot, if they think he could be up to NRL standard at prop. We've had quite a bit of success with our young props in the last few years.

Exciting to hear that Manu ran 70m to score, hopefully that means his apparent loss of pace last season was not permanent but simply the result of him struggling to come back from injury, which has been the case several times in the past.

Pouching is playing in France. Think he is due back this way end of May.

It is good news, but I;m more interested in the big guys defence.

He's an attacking superman but he lets a lot of trys in down his wing.

Yeah, he certainly looks to have gotten his speed back. Killer try, lets hope he scores a few more like that this year!

In the next trial Bluey should not pick any props

I just went through the Warriors Player Profiles. And the only players who aren't injured who are actually listed as props are Packer, Matulino and Sam Lousi haha.

Obviously we could also use Sione Lousi, Ukuma Ta'ai and maybe Taukeiaho there... but DAMN we lose a f**kload of experience and reliability.

In other news, the Fish is now 95kgs! That's pretty beast mode for his frame.

Agreed.
Hell I would consider some Vulcans Props before the lousi brothers lol. (at this stage of the season).

If Poching was still here, he would of got a short term contract.
Areatii or Mark Ioane would of been nice - but any team bar canberra would be tested this much with 3 injuries to front rowers.

Nah, what about Suia Matagi or Agnatius Paasi short term contract :)
