Inside word from the camp is there's a quick fix for our woes. Gary Stead hadn't realised WC games aren't 60 overs anymore.

Certainly explains our batting tone.

And worst of all, Latham got going and looked like he would have supported Gup/Kane/Taylor quite well.

Neesh seems to have the appetite for a fight, but if Colin de Levers is coming out in over 25 you know you're pretty much screwed. Not sure what the hell MS Santner was thinking with a 30 ball 12.

The points table is about right, we're better than the bottom half but we're going to get picked off in the semi without much trouble. We missed Ferguson and might have made it a 250 chase, but what difference would that have made if we couldn't get 200.

It's very obvious that Stead is no Hesson.

Our talent pool is a notch below 2015 but still a lot better than many World Cups we've been in. What's majorly lacking this time is our intensity and hunger, we have bursts of energy followed by misfields, half-volleys and batting for stumps.

When you think about it we barely escaped South Africa and the Windies, and got handed a point for the India washout we'd have probably lost.

Three team race.
