Hope your talking about Bell BD.
I wouldnt mind Wes from the Dragons either.
They have him out on the wing and he's doing a good job but I liked him in the centres a few weeks back.
A permanent run in the centres might tempt him.
He can kick too but for some strange reason the Dragons used Gorrell today.
Anyone know his contract situation?

Wes is off contract and still unsigned as far as I know. The Drags have a few others to wrap up first. Plays fullback as well.

Bell would be good, but come on honestly, how much ball do you think he's going to get? What's the point in us forking out big money for centres when our Halves seem unable or unwilling to give them any ball?

It's just a waste. We waste money and the player wastes his time.

Exhibit A - Vagana.

Probably none Boo. He plays right centre for The Storm so the first thing is he will have to switch to left to accomodate Vagana who gets little ball now on the dominant side of the field

We all know our left centre and winger get no clean ball now.

The left side got some clean ball with Dykes running the show. Wonder if Dykes would have had the confidence to go left if Mellor wasn't there?

I think if he was in the first receiver role as he was on the weekend he would. I don't know about if he was playing his normal five eighth though. He doesn't get that much clean ball himself when he is playing on the left as 5/8.

Vags definately gets more ball when Dykes is in the team. Kimmorley likes to ignore him for some reason despite the potent attacking combination Bails, Vags and to a lesser extent Simmo have formed.

Certainly the backline as a whole feel alot more comfortable using the ball with Mellor in the team. They make a point of saying that it's nothing against goldy, just that the confidence and combination runs better with the big guy in there.

Mellor certainly draws in more defence in his attacking runs and has good line breaking potential.

But that damn knee of his is getting the better of him lately.

I hope it holds up for the year.

So once again, despite some obvious areas of concern, we are a fair chance of coming up with nothing.

In fact if we do, as some have suggested, lose some of our good youngsters, along with Peach and Stevo, could be far worse off next year.

What about Chris McKenna?

Hes off contract at the end of the year and wants to come back to the NRL

I'd love to get Hymie back. There's really nothing stopping him other then the $$$. He's got his premiership, so he mighr be keen to come back. I did hear a whisper though that the Gold Coast were looking at him as being one of their Key Signings for '07.

How old will he be then?

Well it's not through want of trying PJ. If players don't want to come to us we can't just pay overs on everyone to get them. That's the boat we are in sadly. Same happened last year. Kidwell, Webb, Maguire are a few names that come to mind as players we "courted" but couldn't "woo" in the end.

The slump has come at exactly the wrong time for us as well as far as recruitment.

Hymie turns 31 in October this year.

That's fair enough Jack, but if we struggle to attract players why don't we try and look after the ones we bring through a bit better. As it stands from my reading of the forum some of our better prospects could be putting the time and money we spent on them to good use at other clubs.

Don't forget Thurston and Firman capt

We are in a better position to buy talent this season then last(ladder wise and $$ wise) but last year we locked up key players, long term before june 30 - Gallen, Sully, Bailey, Hilder, Dumas etc.

This year it is just Simmo. That is what worries me

Ahh The $64 question.

I've been asking it for many years now.

I don't know PJ.

What about history wise or current form wise or game plan wise?

We're not an attractive option at the moment IMO

Look at how many players we go overs on. Lomu, Merritt, Vagana for example. We do it because we have to.
