We Will Beat Penrith

I was camping the night after the 09 prelim win against the dogs. We went away for a drive after dinner and i left my Eels chair near the fire. As we were driving around (spotlighting, form of hunting) we had the radio on the footy (Storm Vs Broncos). Needless to say, the storm whacked the broncos, a storm (strong breeze, light drizzle) came in a blew my Eels chair into the fire.

It was the universe telling me we were going to lose that grand final.

Not really a superstition but kind of a story in response to eelogical's magpie story.

Superstition thread?

I remember the old man took me to a game one day when I was a kid, we used to always park in Parra Park near where the river flows through (there's a cafe there now and back in the day when u could still swim in it they used to call it Little Coogee I believe) anyways we were walking over the little bridge there and fair dinkum as I looked into the water the was this massive 1m long eel floating dead on top of the water...

I specifically remember my old man saying 'jeez I hope that's not an omen' and I having no f*cking idea what omen meant..

Broncos pumped us by 30 odd

Penrith are the only team in the Top 8 that haven't scored over 200 points but they have the 2nd best defence after the Bulldogs. I think the Panthers have been propped up by about 8 points seeing as they've played the Knights and Raiders twice already this year so that has helped them a fair bit. The highest scoring games for the Panthers this year have been 30-8 win over Knights Round 1, 32-10 win over Knights in Round 9, and 26-20 win over Raiders in Round 10. So they aren't really a high-scoring team as when they've played better opposition they have struggled to put on points and there has only been 1 other occasion this year that they've scored 20 points or more, Round 8 against the Sharks which they lost.

A big factor of Parramatta this year has been our attack and after the last Round we had the most points in the NRL. Our attack comes naturally so if we prevent the Panthers from scoring we should win this one. The thing preventing us from doing that is the Panthers will make sure their sturdy defence is maintained but if we get the unpredictability of Sandow going again it should the Panthers structure.

Many will think the bye came at a wrong time for us but i think it came at the perfect time. Some niggling injuries will be rested and hopefully Hayne backs up (i think he will unless he is injured)

The fact that we held Dragons to nil the last game will have the boys pumped to get out there again. In interviews its what the guys were the most happy about.

Penrith are a gritty side but haven't really got a huge amount of points in them. They will have their full side in this time compared to last time. With our season going well i expect we will have a decent blue and gold crowd out at penrith for this one too

Penrith have had a easier draw they have played the bottom three sides (raiders twice, sharks and knights) four times. We have only played one of the bottom 3 sides once (sharks).

Also we have played, roosters twice, broncos, manly, broncos , Penrith all currently in the top 8. That is 6 of our games against top 8 sides

Someone should make a superstition thread, see what us merkins do to try and help Parra win games.
im a big believer that whenever I buy a new parra jacket we win the minor premiership. I am 2/2 in 01 and 05.

Also in 09 every game I went up to Sydney to watch I brought lucky scarf, my lucky parra scarf. We won every game. Unfortunately I forgot to take it with me to the gf and the rest is history. Sorry I let the club down.

And all these years I was blaming the refs.

I think we've done really well to this point in the season, but might start to cop the odd extra loss here and there now - the next game against Penrith potentially being one of them.

As someone else said, we only need 6-8 more wins and we'll be somewhere between 4th and 8th...

Panthers away - could go either way
Cowboys home - win
Bulldogs away - loss
Storm away - could go either way
Knights home - win
Warriors away - could go either way
Rabbitohs home - loss (especially if they move it to Homebush)
Titans away - win
Sharks away - could go either way
Raiders home - win (just for Ricky)
Bulldogs home(bush) - loss
Sea Eagles home - loss
Knights away - win
Raiders away - win

That's six wins by my count, with a few maybes as well...

we are a great chance v dogs in a few weeks given they will be missing the halfs. Yes we will be missing hayne bu the rest of our team is playing better and should be able to cope better without him than the last few years.

if hoppa isnt called into blues camp for game 2 we'd be a lot more dangerous with him at fullback

Is there talk about moving the souths game to ANZ?

I will be very surprised if BA does, especially with our record at home
