If that's what most want then have 2 divisions; and NRL Division 1 and a Division 2. 10 teams in each. Bring in the Bears, Firehawks and Jets. 18 matches in both leagues, home and away, FPTP system to win the JJ Giltinan Shield. Magic weekend becomes a Nines Tournament. Top 8 from Div. 1 go onto play for the Provan-Summons Trophy on the first Sunday of October, 4pm kick-off. 1 v 8, 2 v 7 etc. played over 2 legs. Winners go into a 1 leg semi-final. 2 week break until the Grand Final for the Provan-Summons Trophy. Bottom team in Div.1 gets relegated, winner of Div.2 gets promoted. NRL Div.1 gets more TV money and all their matches are televised.
Ok, for sake of argument lets say I agree with your position.

Why get rid of the Sea Eagles and Sharks only to bring in new teams?

If the NRL was willing to go down this route, which they're not but I'll pretend that they are for sake of argument, it'd be a massive waste of resources to punt those teams and bring the Bears, Jets, etc.

So why not save yourself a bunch of time and money and cut a step out by simply relocating the Sea Eagles and Sharks just like you plan to relocate the Tigers?

English soccer for instance. There are ten million clubs so has to be divisions and relegation/promotion
A proper P&R system won't be sustainable in any sport in Australia until there's a relatively even geographical spread of clubs and a way is found to make travel costs more affordable for lower tier clubs.

The gap between tiers is too great as well. Almost any club moving between the NRL and second tier, in either direction, would instantly go bankrupt at the moment.

It wouldn't be a bad long term goal if the sport wants to go down that route, but it's unlikely that it'll be feasible in our lifetimes, and probably the next either.

Yeh I’ve read so many posts about how Cronulla should stay at shark park lmao
Only when the Sharks are suggesting that the taxpayer fund upgrades to their privately owned stadium that aren't, and never will be, in the taxpayers interest.
council sold them (hull kr) back the ground and an acre of land around it on the cheap
So they got themselves a good deal. Good for them.

The Raiders would be trying to do similar if they had any brains.

Reality doesn't change just because we don't like it.

Certain clubs have been allowed to be a ball and chain around the league's neck for decades, and a well run comp with strong administration wouldn't allow it.

On the topic of redcliffe

Surprised to hear today Melbourne have extended their feeder arrangement with the Sunshine Coast for a further 3 years, I thought for sure the Dolphins would of been putting in a fair bit of pressure to snag this one given their aspirations for the area

Yeh saw that, and setting up and academy there. I guess the SC dont want anything to do with the Dolphins!

The Falcons rep pretty much outright said this when asked about the dolphins by a reporter

as for the academy I thought they had already started one there but I guess not (unless this is an upgrade). Storm group own and established the SC netball side as well for anyone who didn't know.

Any sunshine coastians here than can share an opinion on storm v dolphins for support up there?

Maybe storm could take a game up there V dolphins that would be good, a trial next season perhaps

only if we don't take a game to suncorp for magic round
as for a trial I think its better for Victoria's development we keep that in Geelong

I'd suggest the Dolphins request to play Melbourne for their game their but the big draw that fixture is its better off at suncorp

Fans or club which is probably getting some benefit for being feeder for storm?!
Melbourne is investing $$ in SC grassroots and setting up an academy there, direct pathway from juniors to NRL

I can see a bit of a turf war happening with the Storm and the Dolphins in the future, from my experience on the SC, especially around Noosa, there's a high concentration of Victorian expats up there

tbh I'd rather we spend that money in Victoria, but until the comp down here increases in quality I can see why the club needs to invest in NSW & QLD cup clubs in the meantime to stay competitive

at least we are spending money developing these SC juniors as our own rather than poaching

The AFL see the Suns and Giants as long term investments, and if the AFL could get away with more rationalisation in Melbourne they would.

Unfortunately for them the average AFL side is much better run than the average NRL side and they haven't had an opportunity to move a club on since 1996. If they ran the NRL they would have rationalised at least a few since the turn of the century, and they wouldn't have allowed Souths to stay in the competition in their current form after the dodgy court ruling that got them back in was overturned.

The Rabbitohs should be called The Rabbitohs.

The AFL running the NRL would have the same problem tryibg to ratuonalize it, bite back eliminating teams.

Rabbits vs Roosters is the game's biggest rivalry, local Sydney rivalry. Like Carlton vs Collingwood.

As much as I personally think there should be more rationalization , Rabbits and Roosters probably wont be it.

You can literally still see the scars from super league right here it’s hilarious

south’s winning the first court case was obviously a bitter blow for our old mate
