The Brisbane Broncos wish to thank the Norths Devils senior club for their affiliate relationship, which will finish at the end of the 2023 season.

Having formed in 2008, the partnership has helped deliver success for Norths including back-to-back Premierships in the Hostplus Cup in 2021 and 2022.

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said: "We wish Norths all the best in the future - now that they have made their decision we will move forward with our own plans across the wider Brisbane region.

"Being based on the north-side of the river, we will continue to maintain a strong presence across this part of our city, through our home base and Academies at Red Hill, as well as our longstanding relationships with schools and our club's game development partners in the north.
“We remain fully committed to Brisbane’s north and are excited about continuing to develop our connections with the communities across the region in the years ahead.”

Shit - they matched broncos number.

So NRL membership doubled in Brisbane in one year due to dolphins.

Bring in tigers next
Theres already a tigers, sheens is coach...
...seasons not over... expansion wont happen or atleast won't be announced till next year, and that would be for a 2026 start... they aren't going back to the well again, brisbane is done for the moment, it needs a few seasons to take hold... by then it'll be perf, png/pasifika or whatever the bears want to do...
In fact i reckon they are all the next 3 anyways

Nine & fox will determine next team. Nine want Brisbane & so do fox most likely

No they wont lachlan murdoch will stop that shit asap regardless what both those networks want..
It'll be whatever the clubs and arlc agree upon as the least threat to each other.... png will be the frontrunner... perth has its distance issues plus stripping of current talent pool, another brisbane has its SEQ rivals who want to delay it, central coast has the issue of being in NSW where theres already 10 teams, NZ doesnt even have any bidders or location for it

Everyone forgets its the CLUBS that have the voting power, not these tv networks!!
Unless it comes from Murdocks mouth thats what fox want, i wouldn't believe a word of anything tv network related regarding the people who work there saying off the cuff expansion remarks

Lachlan murdoch has a massive stake in both fox and the bronx... remember the ARLC will drive the expansion case, but the location will be driven by the clubs via their selfish needs, to get another brisbane team in you need to convince the broncos and murdoch (never gonna happen), the dolphins, and the titans... plus the storm who are invested in QLD for their junior stock, and then all other clubs also have to swing that way too.

So thats 4 votes down possibly more if the cowboys dont want it either, and NSWRL wont want more qld teams which means they will get less pie, which goes to QRL slice of pie,
Its basically a political shitfight, and the least threatening bid will generally win...(aka dolphins)

"Last year, the SMH reported that V'landys and NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo travelled to the US to get the blessing for expansion from Lachlan Murdoch, co-chairman of Foxtel owner News Corp."

I think you're on the money except for the part about Perth having distance issues. Surely if Perth has distance issues, then so does PNG?

Cairns, png and pacific islands are off the east coast, the clubs will share the travel around, albiet in different locations, perth will make every team travel to the West coast, plus their junior base isnt upto cup standard, so the other clubs wont want them poaching theirs without being able to give back in return...Pacifica wont have that issue, its the lesser of 2 evils sorta thing

A club having to travel to perth once a year isn’t going to matter one bit to them lol I’d suggest it will be an easier trip than travelling to Port Moresby, wouldn’t you?

There goes that bias perf red band wagon
You’re welcome to put forward your opinion why you think travelling once a year to part moresby is any easier than travelling once a year to perth. Be my guest.

heres why I think it will be easier
1. Domestic flight v international flight saving 90mins each end at airport
2. a lot more flight options/times to perth
3. weather is more akin to what they are used to
4. less security concerns in perth

why do you think travelling to Port Moresby is easier than perth? The only advantages I can think of is time zone is same as east coast and actual flying time is slightly less.

I dont actually care, and im not the one you need to convince, its the NRL clubs you need to post your case to, who already travel to a foriegn country in Auckland all year round... and are happy to do it knowing full well they can poach promising NZ talent there, So is adding promising young talent not on your list of reasons Perth is better than PNG?
Yeah...
Anyways i want both teams involved as the next 18&19 licences, even heard Bears are back as the Perth frontrunner.... as i had predicted was the only bid to snag the next licence if they indeed got over their squabbles

Apologies I thought you were putting out your opinion for debate. Didn’t realise this was a lobbying platform to NRl clubs lol
whats jnrs got to do with your comment on travel?

no bears are not, it was a comment in a sydney paper that can’t talk about expansion without mentioning the bears somewhere in it lol. Only hope for the bears is if the nrl is serious about wanting a club by 2026 Or if they are willing to back away from their “non negotiables“. I see PNG bid came out this week and said they won’t accept partnering with an Australian second tier club that wants to run the club.

All you do is debate your perf case, you dont accept that there's the existing clubs who decide whats in their interest first before any potential advantage to yourself

Go figure, a rl fan in perth advocating for a perth club. No news on that lol
if you’re going to make opinion statements like “clubs will prefer travelling to Port Moresby rather than perth‘ then you should be prepared to be called out on that opinion with counter argument. Apart from time zone I can’t see any reason for your opinion to be the case, in my bias opinion.

clubs will, and should as stand alone businesses, always vote for what’s best for them. It’s up to the arlc to convince them of the benefits of expansion and where that expansion should be.

Of course, but the arlc can only put a case for Perth, they cant vote for the clubs, if those clubs are strongly against a new franchise 4-5hrs away from everyone, who don't have any junior talent to give in return vs a foriegn city that is closer than Perth, to atleast most of the comp, and has its own digicup comp running plus the qcup hunters in a population 5 times the size of perth minimum, and plays the game, its a no brainer... as the clubs know if they are losing players to a new franchise, they'll also be able to get them back to... there's nothing coming out of perth, its just all going inwards... i get they dont have their own team yet, but the comps there need to be at the standard to challenge resreve grade
