They made their intention to play up to half their games away from Suncorp pretty clear, so this isn't surprising. All you had to do was pay attention to what they were actually saying, not the opinion pieces on their bid.
What's unfortunate is that the split venues will further split their market, which will hurt their support, and attendance in the long run. That will eventually be used as an excuse to play more games in Redcliffe because it'll be "adequate for their audience" and cheaper, which will further hurt their support across Brisbane, but cement them as a 'Redcliffe' side which is what they really want the side to be anyway.
Sonner or later they'll push for upgrades to Redcliffe, probably within the next decade or so, then they'll look to phase Suncorp out as quickly as possible.
The moral of the story is that you can't be everything to everyone, especially when you don't have any intentions of it actually working... It's just like a relocated Bears; hypothetically a Redcliffe owned NRL side representing a significant portion of Brisbane could have been extremely successful, the problem is that they never wanted that and therefore never should have been trusted with it.
