You need to remember, no AFL club is privately owned, most of the money West Coast turned as a profit would have gone straight back into the WAFL


You also need to take into account the fact that the AFL controls most of the clubs funds and equalisation.

the last stat that I read said Vic looses 20,000 a year, mostly to northern states, and if you have a look at AFL in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, its easy to see the surge in AFL aprticipation in junior competitions

The storm is just lucky that there isn't a union side in the super14's in the state as more people down here would PLAY and follow union than league. THey would be in a heap of trouble to survive.
The storm actually getting anywhere near the support that our worst club gets would be a joke.

Incredibly, there actually have MORE members in Melbourne than in Geelong. As well as lots in rural Victoria as well. Hence they play quite a few matches at the Dome, which is of course handly for all the people catching the V Line from Sleepy Hollow.
