The Sharks are farked.

Its been a long drawn out affair, but the winding up of the club will probably come with the new TV deal and expansion. Time to merge with a bid team (Qld most likelies) or fold.

Based on your impeccable inside knowledge ,no doubt.

I really think people are looking at the choices of expansion, relocation or folding the wrong way. It all comes down to possession of an NRL license. One way to think of it is that we have two new licenses coming up and 6 or whatever bids in the race for one of those. Another way to look at it is that we'll have 18 licenses and 24 clubs/individuals in the market for those licenses.

There is an active market for licenses and the existing team identities. Souths sold to Crowe/HaC, Manly sold to Penn/Delmege, Newcastle just sold to Tinkler, the Sharks look the most likely to sell next. In each case the preservation of the location, name and colours was a condition of the sale. For the right price, some or all of these conditions could probably be removed.

Of course there are other players in the market who are more interested in getting a license than keeping alive an existing identity. But that doesn't mean they're inflexible on the notion of taking over an existing identity if it ultimately gets them a team located where they want it at the right price. The license is the prize. The club identity and whether a new company runs it is secondary.

They should take a leaf out of the Bears handbook and re-emerge with a bid team. Ipswich-Logan or Sunshine Coast Sharks perhaps?

I kind of like this idea, it would give them tine to rebuild in a new area and get the community behind them instead of just jumping into the deep end straight up. I'd go for 'South NZ Sharks'.

Why not go for "South Pacific"? Would allow you to market yourself to the entire country like the New Zealand Warriors and well beyond to all the smaller island nations that are unlikely to ever have their own team.

The southern sharks? They'll have NZ players on tap and wellington would be a good fit considering they already pump out regular first graders (Mannering, Packer, Isaac Luke, Alehana Mara, Matulino, Sika Manu)

Just heard Craig Davidson from the 2nd Brisbane bid team say "Perth are in".

He believes his bid is in a battle with the remaining bids for the other expansion spot. This was on ABC Grandstand.

Well done Perth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gallop was lined up for an interview directly after and said he didn't know where Craig got that one from, but you'd expect him to say that.

Again..well done Perth!!

Don't get too excited, it was clearly just his opinion based on his economic analysis.

I'll be offering congratulations to the bid teams when the IC makes the official announcement, and not before.

Wow. He'd know.

I heard Neville "The Bomber" Pike say "the Jets are back in the NRL in 2010". Neville is the bloke in charge of the Orara Valley Axemen's NRL bid.

Looks like that Craig Davidson plonker has NFI.

I'll congratualte any new team when they have a spine, nah stuff it, either a quality halfback or five eigth, because there are enough teams already that do not.

Has anything Craig has said to the media in the last 5 months actually come to fruition? He said Bennett was interested in joining his bid until Bennett shut that down @ Allstar weekend. He said at one stage Redcliffe were poised to be the BNE2 headbase and now Redcliffe officials are like "first we heard about it..."

Back on Perth, I hope they get in as one of the new franchises. But until the IC are up, all this talk is just wishlisting, which has been the norm from Craig.

OK - seriously - I havent kept up to date on the 2nd Brisbane team thread for a number of reasons (I usually avoid threads that are hundreds of pages long because if I wanted to read a novel I wouldnt log onto LU).

I did skim through the first pagfe of the "Names" thread - thought it was a giant pisstake because they were all utterly stupid.

That said - have they got a name? A confirmed stadium? A board with CEO? Coaching staff? I know they are making plenty of noise, but even AFL are claiming they have signed players.

And is there one bid? Which of the Logan, Ipswich and Brisbane II bids have folded? Have they combined resources? Have they even identified where they will get their fans from - and if not how they will survive by being the Broncos fans "second side" and having no "first side" supporters?

I'm dying to know.

We should still let them in, they will survive purely on the fact that there are too many Sydney teams!
