What is wrong with a crowd of 37,037 for the first game? The ground record is only around 43,000 (Eagles Prelim Final), so considering that, it is a bloody fantastic crowd.

meh... they should just get rid of the force and give canterbury a 2nd side. that way the competition might be fair. they could probably split the crusaiders into 2 squads and they would still probably whip most sides.

seriously though, the crusaiders are that much better than everyone else its not funny.

37K to their debut game.

So much for the hundreds of thousands of rugby loving immigrants they have over there ....... LMFAO

What were attendances like for the Western Reds?

Don't forget that the game was live on Foxtel in Perth. Some fans prefer to stay home. Some go to a bar or restaurant for the night, if they can watch the game.

& that still doesn't answer the question of where were the hundreds of thousands of ex-pats we were told would go to the games?

Or are we now prepared to admit that was a lie and Victoria was f**ked over simply for Foxtel's purposes?

Wouldn't the ex-pats be more likely to attend matches featuring teams from the country they came from? Just a thought.

So why was it used as a reason to screw Victoria out of the team they rightly should have been awarded?

-----------------------------------

They would have promoted the crap out of the game and they couldn't even sell the stadium out.

We managed to get 11,000 to a trial game, that was quite simply not promoted other than word of mouth amongst the hard core rugby community in stinking, stinking hot weather, at a second rate (at best) stadium to watch the team the team that should have been ours play against a NZ side.

All factors combined = a terrible crowd comparitively.

& they lost the game too, a great night for Victorian Rugby I must say. No Victorian team would have lost their debut game.

You do realise had Melbourne got the 4th Aussie team then probably all of the players in the Force squad would be in the Melbourne team.....

Yeah - but they would have had that famous Victorian spirit to help them lift 110%

Ahhhh of course... the "famous" Victorian spirit.

Hasn't seemed to have helped the Victorian AFL team in the last couple of years or so....

May I also ask how much the tickets were?

Depends on where you sat. Our tickets were $21 (student....no im not a student anymore) and they were pretty good seats. All in all, they are a bit more than what AFL ticket prices are.

No Victoria was f**ked over because it has a crowded sporting schedule, Western Australia has a much better history of Rugby and also has a strong local competition in which the ARU are hoping will grow and improve in quality with the inclusion of the Super 14 side.

That put together with the fact that there a lots of expats that will support the franchise, the location, which helps teams coming from and going to South Africa have an extra stop over in between to ease on travel etc and the fact that WA is just superior to Victoria in every way possible is the reason why we deservedly got the side. :D

Yeah and the fact that Melbourne have 10 AFL clubs and a NRL club! The new side would struggle to compete just like the Storm is struggling ina AFL mad state!

Western Australia has the worst rugby union comp that I have ever witnessed.

The senior competition is full up with old men.Esp there Third grade and forth grade

The WARU favours a couple of clubs (Cottesloe and Nedlands) Look at the Force players drafted.

In the biggest area in Perth growth wise (Rockingham) they have not fielded a first grade for five years because the League is so strong.

The junior comp is in disarray with games refereed by Dads, no medical trainers for teams, players playing in different gear etc etc etc.

The Force have alot of work to do not only in getting a winning side but in setting up a decent local comp that can compete with the League comp in the West. They go for quantity of teams in union and really there is only 4 decent clubs who would even get near winning the comp. Their junior set up is as amateur as can be.

From what you hear and read that just seems to be the way the ARU runs union in Aus. Setup the top tear then build down and if you cant find it localy rob the other states of their top players. This has to be one of the reasons why Aus are struggling in scrums generally. Which makes it ironic when they are pushing the IRB to drop scrums.

But Fieldo, the Perth team had done well in the Australia Shield competition....actually winning it a few years back.

They can't be that bad.

Shows how bad the rest of the rest of the minor states are......WARL beats everyone too......we are just the best in both sports in all states except NSW and Qld.
