Wests Tigers take over bid

There were serious actual reasons behind the scenes. The ARL had told the clubs that they were going to reduce numbers in Sydney based on criteria. The clubs were then busily trying to entice international sponsors as well as establish themselves as THE Sydney club. It seems ridiculous now, but in 93, based on the Criteria that ARL were looking at using, the Roosters were in serious trouble.

You do realise that you could define any criteria and it could exclude club X

Or rewrite and it would exclude club Y

News Ltd at the time made sure one criteria item was about having money in the bank. This was just after thise clubs got up to $9 mil to join SL

While criteria like junior development was ignored, so clubs like Easts would not get culled. But by doing that we could have seen Penrith culled if Souths Juniors sponsorship was accepted or Wests-Balmain merger did not go ahead

While criteria like crowds in the middle of a period where Sydney RL public were not attending in droves due to Super greed was included

What heritage is that?

Tigers have none....

A soulless club foisted on to the public as an appeasement to the Murdochracy.

You have no heritage. You sold it.

If you ceased to exist, your fans have shown they'll be quick to support some other club.
For a club that hasn't made the top 8 in a decade, the Western Sydney Tigers draw very healthy crowds and TV ratings. They have a larger geographical footprint than most Sydney clubs, which gives them room to grow.

So wests tigers are a housing development.

The key as you've moaned about before is ratings.

Rabbits were 2nd

It has nothing to do with location....

The Raiders are never on FTA for the same reason that all the clubs from outside of Sydney, bar Brisbane, struggle to get a fair share of FTA time; the competition is way to Sydney-centric and run by morons who still think the future of the sport is in suburban Sydney.
Raiders draw solid crowds and are the largest professional sporting club in the ACT. All 9 of Sydney's pro RL clubs are dwarfed by the AwFuL's Swans.

South Sydney are a juggernaut, which is great to see. They're in a strong position because they have a well known Hollywood actor promoting their brand, which is aided by the fact they have Sydney in their name and it's probably the first city people around the world think of when they hear "Australia". But we cannot forget they were in a world or hurt back in the 90s when they were run by old-school RL people. Let's just be happy they've set the bar for how a Sydney club should be run in the 21st century.

If the ARLC can build a war chest then it can use it to attract influential celebrities to become club ambassadors. Our most successful period was when Tina Turner was our ambassador.

Swans tv ratings are poor.

Only averaged 39k in 2019 compared to Melbourne clubs who were in the hundreds of thousands.

Do the Swans think they have South Melbourne's heritage?

And Brisbane Fitzroy's?

Yeah what happened at that time that destroyed our most successful period?

The Bunnies have Snoop and RZA from Wu Tang who often wear Rabbitohs gear as well. Whilst they may not be true supporters it does add to brand exposure internationally.

Hugh Jackman should buy into the Sea Eagles. He is a supporter and has been seen at games. You would think it would have a similar impact than Rusty has for us given his popularity and Manly being a tourist destination (when we could travel).

Over 8000 might of been healthy in the 80s and even 90s but not today.

Balmain And Wests cease to exist.

It was ridiculous trying to honour a Wests legend with a jersey he never played for.

Souths wouldn't prostitute themselves to Murdoch and his minions and there'd be no way in hell, we'd follow a Souths Sharks team.

You obviously never heard of 'Group 14' .btw.

Souths had to have $10 million guaranteed in sponsorship and cash before the judge would even hear their case. Group 14 found it.

We sure as hell didn't do stupid antics like call ourselves Sydney Rabbitohs which didn't work.

Group 14
Isn't that the carbon group on the periodic table?
A NSW CRL Group?

Only decent bloke on that G14 was Don Lane who put a lot of money into Souths and Piggins knifed him- I still remember your minties jumper from the early 80's - Bill Anderson ran into the back of my car on Driver avenue when he was your coach - a few people ran across the road so i stopped suddenly and he didn't - it was a Chooks vs Vermin game at the Sports ground won by the Chooks

North Sydney Sea Eagles vs South Sydney Rabbitohs, Jackman vs Crowe, would be great marketing.

All reasonable points, but please re-read, all of this was being applied 3 years prior to Superleague

Roosters are setting the bar for how a Sydney Club should be run.

Souffs have had 5 years or so of dodgy dealings including cover ups regarding Burgii and Gi that IMO will catch up with them. If they let Reynolds go, IMO it is the closing of their window and we will see the truth of the matter.
