Wests Tigers to form NSW Cup team in 2013

Agree with getting rid of the magpies and working on combinations though.

how can this happen when you make the magpies dissapear.Great news if you are a balmain supporter but that has always been the agenda of the merge for balmain to rise

I'm an old magpies supporter but lets get real. The longer we delude ourselves and keep holding on to the past and hoping one day Western Suburbs or Balmain come back the less chance we have of becoming a success.

The current junior generation and future generations are all wests tigers supporters, they don't care about or probably know anything about Western Suburbs or Balmain. Let's build our brand, our image and club. We have the ability but too many old heads keep dragging us back.

I personally dont care, but I'm old enough to remember when both teams merged, and one of the "selling points" at the time was that you could still watch your old team run around in the NSW Cup...

Obviously they forgot the part about where this was only for 12 years...

For those that arent Busy . Balmain v Wenty at Leichhardt 1pm Saturday. Most will be suprised by the quaility and intencity of state cup. Easy parking and a cheap day out.

Time marches on. It has just become an unnecessary expense. An article discussing
the demise of the magpies in the SMH said there were probably more magpies players
than supporters at their last match.

Holding Wests Tigers back to appease galahs will ultimately send us to the gallows.

As I said it doesnt worry me... Just mentioning what was said at the time when the members of both clubs agreed on the merger back in 1999.

Would you care if the NSW Cup team was called the Magpies? I'm an ex Balmain fan, and I couldnt give a flying f**k...

Why not have the combined side wear the magpie jersey. No extra cost you please both sides

Yes I would. It is not like we have so much money we can burn it flogging a dead brand.

Sell Wests Tigers, not the magpies, surely.

This is sad, not the merger of nsw cups that's good but the fact that the Magpies brand dies off now. It's bad enough that the new Illawarra team decided not to revive the Steelers brand but to let the Magpie brand fall off the face of the earth sucks. I guess Wenty is the official Magpies club of NSW now.

You would think this is a smart way to go, although in a sense we have already had a no1 reserve grade side as Sheens stacked all the so called better players into the BRET side at the expense of the magpie side.

Anyway if you actually thought Sheens was going to use his reserve grade to foster players and promote and demote players it would be great but that will never happen.Unless injured the top 17 go nowhere

My head acknowledges the need for 1 x team in State Cup and that the luxury of having 2 is no longer feasible into the future. My heart though is not too keen on loosing the black and white or the magpie emblem.

I dunno which way I'm going to go. Part of me feels like walking away from the whole game of league if the Magpies disappear. I am happily and earnestly supporting the WestsTigers in the NRL with the magpie arm emblem, if it disappears thats it for me as I wont support any other team. I've always hoped the combined State Cup team could play with the westsTigers guernsey and Magpie emblem and Tiger arm elblem. I just dont know how I feel at this stage...........

5 games at Leichhardt
2 games at SFS

Home and Away jumpers to be hoops design. One Black and Gold, the other Black and White.

All grades to be merged and playing as Wests Tigers.

This to me would be more appealing to the Wests Tigers, Balmain and Wests Magpies fans in the short term.

Agree, but I think we need to stick with the current colour structure. If anything, white needs to be our prodominant colour with black and orange making up the rest of the design. I really think our current white jersey is the best jersey we have ever had.

I really believe that the club has to start its own direction, create its own history and start planning for the future and not just relying on the fact that things will just happen as they have done in the last 100 years. We need to be innovative and start to look after number 1 because if we fall into the trap of what has happened in the past we will go out the back door quicker than Usain Bolt over the 100 and we will have no team to support.
