Go and shit in your kitty litter tray, then lick your balls clean.

Ok Lets try look at some facts and try keep this conversation sensible if that is at all possible Magpie.

When the Rugby league set a criteria for all clubs to remain in the competition Western Suburbs failed to meet that criteria and Balmain Tigers were successful so therefore remained in the comp. After that date several things could have happened.

1. Balmain carried on as a single club - But there would be NO WESTS
2. Balmain could have merged with Parramatta _ But there would be NO WESTS
3. Balmain could have gone broke after several years and be dropped from the comp - BUT STILL THERE WOULD BE NO WESTS

So it is actualy fact that Balmain while in a better financial position at the time saved Western Suburbs from extinction , But now the shoe is on the other foot your high moral values and honours believe that those offerings of help should not be reciprocated . I just hope the board does not share those same selfish veiws .
Yes Western Suburbs does have financialy healthy Legues clubs, but that alone these days does not dictate wether a Football side is sustainable. Other big parts are - Membership, Sponsorship, Gate takings, Merchadise , TV exposure on and of the field and of course a healthy fan base to make all the above happen.
If we were to take your veiw and remove Balmain entirely from the venture you would be infact removing at least 50% of that support base which contributes to all those things mentioned , that would be financial suicide for any bussiness to undertake .
Im personaly happy we have a side called WESTSTIGERS which i shall follow forever while also fondly remembering the history of the 2 sides that merged to create this great new club .

Sad that over a decade on and people still desperately cling to the past. Just be thankful the original clubs didn't go the same way as North Sydney.

Well said, it's just when the black & white of the Maggies runs through your veins (just like Tigers/Illawarra & dare I say Saints supporters) it's impossible to forget. But I guess the current situation is better than the Maggies adding to their record number of wooden spoons :( RIP Maggies, Bears & Bluebags etc

Blame Barry Ofarrell, the development was close to being approved before he got into power now it's gone backwards, the sharks got their development approved why can't the tigers, it's clearly in the communities interest therefore the publics interest to have the tigers survive in Balmain.

It sort of went like this Big Man .

The first design of the club was going to incorporate a rail station , this idea attracted plenty of investors and the approval process was then to be overseen by the State labour government at the time. When in the final stages before things were ready to go ahead Christine Kenealy as premier pulled the plug on the rail station and without that in the developement investors rightly pulled out thus killing the plain and wasting millions of dollars already spent in planning.
After that the club had to revise the design with less investor interest and also now the goverment wasnt involved all planning approvals were then solely made by leichhardt council who have been a massive pack of merkins in rejecting every design put to them .

100% agree.

As a Balmain fan, I would prefer to die quickly; then live on our knees listening to the whinging & moaning of the short memories of some of the Wests fans. As someone else said, if Wests were to go alone; their fate will soon eventualise & we can return the favour & dance on their grave?

Dissapointing to hear the p$ss poor support from so called fans of West Tigers; who seem intent on trying to rip this thing apart.

lol fair enough , ill give you the benefit of the doubt ;-)

I did say "etc".......:p

Honest mistake, never had anything against the old Balmain Tigers. At least they won a premiership within living memory, (1969) unlike the Maggies which was 1952...and it is what it is, and we live with it.... so as someone said in this forum earlier Wests Tigers for life !!!!!!

top post mate.

Wests I believe had the cash even back in 98/99 but failed in most other areas.

Balmain snuck in by the skin of their teeth in every category, but were told if they stayed a single entity they wouldn't survive much more than 5-10 years.
Balmain and Wests recognised that they could be of value to each other as a joint entity, as all offers for mergers put to Wests and Balmain were essentially take over bids.

Macnaz, it's the emblem that carries on the tradition for me. I'm happy with the wt merge and the tiger emblem for Nrl id just like the magpie emblem to have the prominence for the second tier comp. I support the wests tigers and the tiger part of it as their emblem, I just dont want to see the magpie die out thru 'insignificance' of display.

If the board at the Pies had a little bit of foresight a few years ago they could have written in for a larger Magpie on the sleeve of both NRL & NSWCup both of which now have national TV exposure. But instead they fought for pointless scraps and lost

The emblem for the Wests Tigers club was chosen as the Tiger 13 years ago. It might be time to accept & move on?

Make no mistake about it, no one enjoyed losing their original identity, but for god's sake, let it go. Support the new merged club in its entirety, or risk seeing the whole thing unravel & we will all lose.

I will put my cards on the table and declare I am an old Wests Magpies supporter.

From my point of view, Wests have been the neglected half of the joint venture. The juniors are from the west, and yet our players having to travel to concord for training etc and the old Balmain team was stacked with the talent while the Wests side had the second tier. Alot of juniors preffered to pursue contracts with the Panthers for travel purposes alone.

The "Wests" side of the jv was also forgotten when it came to identification with the team. As the article said, often we are referred to only as the Tigers, and the Magpie emblem requires a telescope to be seen on the jerseys, and alot of merchandise is made without the white.

The Wests side of the jv taking more control is a good thing imo with a greater focus to be put into the west where the juniors are and the leagues clubs are profitable.

That said -

The Wests Tigers is a brand which carries more weight than the Magpies or the Balmain Tigers ever did alone. We are a very marketable commodity, and with better management the combination of the two clubs, traditions and areas make us a far stronger, more viable proposition with the best long term future. I never want to see Balmain eliminated from the jv, I just want the focus to shift in a direction that is better for the club.

Wests Tigers gave me my first living premiership and I hope to see many more.

Lol.. what is with the stupid emblem thing ?? Balmain lost Both the name balmain and the traditional emblem . Maybe we should call it the Balmain Magpies with a tiger emblem and when the press calls us Balmain all the time you will still all cry.. We f**king gave half each .. as ive already said if it wasnt for Balmain Wests would have had half of NOTHING !!! FFS Its one club now ..why cant people accept that .

Whats the problem with the emblem on the sleeve? And mate you sound like you have your knickers in a knot, swearing, using bold etc - I simply gave my opinion. I think the old Balmain people are now the ones that may have to accept a few changes, you held the balance of power, now it is swinging back. I just hope the old Balmain supporters can get behind the changes that are coming and see they may be for the best.

Read my reply again .
If I took it the wrong way I apologise. I am a supporter of the jv, I just think we can do it better. I accept Wests and Balmain are gone, and also believe we are stronger as the Wests Tigers. I hope we move forward in the future.
