Weststigers Wasteland

Pretty well , if you believe Weststigers will be successful you would potentially believe anything

Climate change is basically factual now. Read the post I made above. It's off chat GPT.

It's pretty absurd at this point to get into the discussion. It's not even interesting because it's over.

The interesting part is how we are transitioning and not if or why. It's happening anyway. You can't just put your head in the sand and state it's not real because it is real.

Lol - I bet only the really smart ones are the ones who aren't allowed to talk.

If you are really into the science check out the IPCC https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assessment-report-cycle/

Personally I find it a little bit too detailed and hard.

I've read a couple of of books on the subject and I find the energy transition fascinating. Bill Gates wrote a fantastic book on the transition. It doesn't even though consider the science of why climate change is happening. It's just a fact.

This is so so dumb. It's the culture war stuff that I can't stand. It's f**king evil.

I'm going to provide you a simple lesson on how to fact check yourself.

1. Go to ChatGpt
2. Ask a question to check if what is being stated is correct. I decided to go large and stated "can you please provide information on how many solar panels are required to power the world with electricity and the space that could be fit into"
3. Read the answer and realize that the person spreading misinformation to you is a piece of shit human being.

How Big is 128,000 km²?

  • Roughly equivalent to:
    • Nevada in the U.S. (~110,000 km²)
    • Slightly larger than Greece
    • Less than 1% of the world's desert area (e.g., Sahara alone is ~9 million km²)

The problem is that you have to prefer facts over emotional bullshit.

Just to be clear the area required to power the entire world is nowhere near the amount of land we have available in Australia.

I'll just add something. It's not smart to be played and it's not smart to not give a f**k about the world. It's dumb and evil.

Bonus points:- I asked "can you compare the size of greece to Australia"

The answer is You could fit ~58 Greeces into Australia.

I mean that information provided by that turd of a human being is so so so dumb it boggles my mind.

I even went and checked that stupid x site and sure enough it's culture war bullshit.

This is their tag line:-

"Aussies must stop the erosions of their freedoms by governments and foreign influence. They do not have your interests at heart. Posts & likes not actionable"

What a bunch of morons. This is exactly why certain people shouldn't be allowed on the Internet. If you are easily manipulated get off the Internet.

Don't make it personal Tiger, we might not know as much as you do and if you want to talk about issues like this we all need to chill and take baby steps.
I like your enthusiasm to save our planet, we/I are on your side. Let's not make it an us/them scenario.
I tuned out because it was getting a bit too tense. ;)

What on earth are you talking about you silly boy.
I didn't start anything. Read all of the posts if your going to sling shite. I've only made a couple of initial posts that were not combative. We had a good chat but when it got too technical for me I opted out.
I'm sick of your selective reading. Be a better contributor and others might take you more seriously.
And don't bother baiting me like you always do because your as easy as turning you off again.

You said it was getting a bit too tense not too technical.. Telling people who obviously feel strongly about something that they are talking shit will do that .. then you can’t carry on?

It has nothing to do with being personal. It's a simply misinformation being spread via culture war bullshit. It's ridiculously stupid and it's so easy to see through. You just fact check it and see it's bullshit. Isn't it better to have the same set of facts and to catch people spreading bullshit. I hate it when people bullshit me.

The overall issue is more complex than how you are framing it. We are tiny little blips in the ocean of this issue. I find it fascinating but I realize I'm nothing in the scheme of things. I find so many things fascinating about the subject but one thing I find really fascinating is the energy transition is happening anyway. There is so much misinformation and so many poorly informed people and yet the change is happening anyway. Maybe it's not fast enough but it's happening.

Yeh I get it and I understand your passion Tiger.
I get frustrated when people talk about things that I'm very learned about and I hear something that's not right. Because I'm not as learned as you and Macca I stayed out of making further comments.
I asked you what the average Joe could do, what I could do and I think I'm doing what you recommend except being vocal in the community. That's something I could look into.
One thing that annoys me is when I walk down the frozen food isle at supermarkets and I constantly close the sliding doors that people leave open. A waste of energy.
I think this is the mindset that a lot of Aussies are guilty of. Turning off lights is another.
Seeing hundreds of empty offices or closed offices in highrise buildings with lights burning all night is another crazy mindset that we have to get rid of.

I do the same thing. My wife is always turning off the kids crap as well.

Here is another thing I find interesting though. The way we use energy is changing as well. With solar power we get a lot of power in the day time. So the rate you pay for electricity in the day time is very little due to solar power. So leaving on the lights etc may not be a problem. I never use the dryer but maybe in the day time it's fine. Maybe blaring the a/c is fine or will be as well.

We are going through pretty massive changes right now.

So true. We rent. The house has a switch that turns our heater on the hot water but I think that's inline with off-peak so is that similar to what your saying?

It is. It's a fascinating situation right now. I think we are still only in the early phase of the energy transformation and there will be other changes that happen as well.

Is nuclear the answer?

It depends on the use case but basically nuclear is the most stupid shit in the world for Australia. No expert on the subject will tell you anything else. None. Nuclear to me is a tax on all Australians to give to the fossil fuel companies.

Nuclear is significantly more expensive.

Right now I will fact check myself on chatGPT:-

Question:- "can you please compare the costs of nuclear energy to renewables within Australia"

Answer:-"Renewables are 3–5 times cheaper than nuclear power in Australia based on current modeling.
Nuclear remains cost-prohibitive and slow to deploy, while solar and wind offer quick, affordable, and scalable solutions — especially when paired with battery storage."

*****
Just think on that for a second. I couldn't believe the Liberals were running with such a stupid policy. It boggles my mind.

There is some nuance. For instance:-

1. Other countries may already have or require more power without good conditions for renewable energy production.
2. Technological change may occur within Nuclear energy to make better reactors that are quicker and cheaper to market. This isn't relevant for Australia though. We should piggyback of other countries development unless we somehow do it ourselves. I don't see why we should throw money at this though.
3. There are other use cases like long distance transport that may require Nuclear.

Sounds dumb alright.
Whe fencing became compulsory and had to be compliant, home owners had a gripe but now people accept it as a norm. Same goes for unleaded fuel, guns, smoking in public bla bla bla.
Would it be a good thing to make solar energy compulsory, at least for new homes?

Just quietly, using ChatGPT for fact checking is very backwards. I don't disagree with your points of view, but you should be fact checking what ChatGPT tells you, not the opposite.

It's just a language model. It hallucinates and is often incorrect.

Potentially fair criticism but some fact checking is better than none. That moron who was talking about how many solar panels are required to power the world/ an area was completely and utterly wrong. So so so wrong.

I'll say something else - culture war BS has no part in adult conversations. It's childish and dumb.
