The rise of solar power is fascinating (at least in my little head).

This energy transition is one of the amazing things we will see in our time and I'm not joking. I don't think people have gotten their heads around how big a change this is and how quickly it is happening. In stating that my understanding is that energy transformations typically take 100's of years. This is happening so much more quickly than that time frame.

It's going to be interesting. I think the big issue is everyone blaring their A/C's but at the same time if energy is all solar we should have heaps available at that time.

It's hard to predict the future though. It's just that solar atm is going great guns. I like the idea of Nuclear but atm it's shite. It's really expensive. The next 10 -20 years will be interesting. My opinion at this point is that Nuclear is not going to work as it has in the past but we may have nuclear powered planes and nuclear powered ships for long distance transport. Batteries are too heavy in these use cases.

No. Solar is a gun energy resource at this point in time and it'll get better. It's not going to solve everything right now but I'm an optimist and technology evolves so quickly.

I should add that like I stated above I think there are use cases now that solar won't solve but it's hard to be so confident because technology evolves so quickly.

I don't want to get into politics, but industry will not survive without base load power, sun and wind is not base load, SA is a testament to this.

I'll investigate this one and get back to you. I've never heard an energy industry expert state this. I think it's a scare campaign.

I've been thinking of getting solar panels installed but is it still worth it with the lack of rebate? I might wait a year or two to see if anything else improves. I'm also worried about roof tiles being damaged/not replaced properly during installation leading to more issues lol.

I can't see energy companies giving the punter a break unless forced by the govt or something seriously challenges their business.

Hey mate - I think this refers to the minimal power supply required.

I'm going to assume it's the intermittency issue and I'm not saying this is solved now but I don't see this as an issue at all. To give some more context solar only provides power during the day. Other renewables such as wind provide power at other times but even that isn't really required. We just need better batteries. So the batteries aren't there just yet but the concept works now. It's just got to get a bit better. I'd be extremely surprised if this doesn't happen in the next 5-10 years. I honestly don't see this as an issue at all.

Nuclear doesn't have the intermittency problem but it's f**ken expensive and it's slow to market. It's shit atm. I am actually a fan of nuclear as well but I'm a fan of some future development in this power that isn't available now. I think in the future we may see small quick to market nuclear reactors. Even when I'm stating this though I'm skeptical because renewables plus batteries is basically here now. Bill Gates is investing into this technology now (small scale quick to market nuclear reactors) but he is investing in a bunch of different technologies. A lot of them won't work.

The issues that I can see are planes and big boat shipments or even something like long haul trucking. The batteries required for these use cases would be extremely large and therefore it'd start not making economic sense. I have no idea what will happen here. Maybe they will use something like bio-fuels which would be carbon neutral. Maybe this is where nuclear power will come into the picture.

I wouldn't be worried about the intermittency issue though.
