I'd take Hoffman, Slater, Inglis, Lima, Tolman, Cronk, Adam Blair, either or both of the Bromwich boys, Sika Manu, Cameron Smith, Brett White, Gareth Widdop, or Brett Finch. Hell, I'd take back Mad Pup or Quinn if they were dirt cheap and I suspected they'd be able to do a better job than Naiqama/Lulia/Vuna. But even then, probably not.

I wouldn't say no to Justin O'Neill, Josh Jerome, Theodore Stuart, John Kite or Kevin Proctor

So roughly, how much money do we have left on our cap for next year?

Might be pipedreams, but geez I'd love to see Cronk and Inglis come here.

Depends on who we re-sign but as it stands if you go through the off contract list and add wicks and houston to it - it has to be a $1 million... at least.

If the club does not sign a couple of big names then the only explainations are we are just inept at recruitment or we just don't have the cash and aren't spending our full cap.

So that means we may well be a possible chance of getting Cronk and/or Inglis

Although, our recruitment over the last god knows how long doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Hell, even if we only got Cronk I'd be a very happy camper.

Depends jobby - the club has two options here simply.

Buy a premiership and chuck what we have at two superstars or a superstar and two guns.

Or go the depth option and sign a gun and then re-sign most of our off contract players but resign ourselves to futher mediocrity.

Our recent record would indicate which way they're going to go :(

In order of preference in terms of the Storm's big four, I'd go Cronk, Inglis, Slater, Smith. I really believe the only thing stopping us from being a genuine premiership threat is firstly a halfback, and secondly a gamebreaking centre.

Surely the club has to show a bit of foresight here and acknowledge that next year we'll have a state of the art stadium to play out of and any "extra" money we can gain by having more spectators through the gates can only be beneficial for the club. EAS will hold around 35k next year. If we go with the mediocrity option, we'll continue to get crowds of around 15k. In a 35k-capacity stadium, that's not good enough. If we can get a Cronk, or an Inglis, I guarantee you we'll get bums on seats and be regularly drawing crowds in excess of 20,000, which in turn, helps our bottom line.

We need to do whatever it is to get at least one superstar here, especially with the room we're rumoured to have left under the cap.

No doubt we are well under the cap right now but do we really have the resources to actually spend all the way up to $4.1M?

I have serious doubts that we do

You have to Go a CRONK..a talened organised halfback can make a side look good..If you can get Inglis then its a bonus
But,,after playing under belamy ...would they want to come and coached by rick stone???
maybe thats an issue for us....State of origin coach who pulls no punches to a coach who treads softy softly who is still finding his way in the big time

Are all Storm players existing contracts now void? Therefore they are all available for signing.

Then why is everyone talking about signing Cronk, Inglis, etc?

Because the Storm are still $700,000 over the salary cap for 2010 and need to get back to the same as everybody else. To do this, they have to cut players - as the NRL isn't allowing players to opt to stay on for less money.

But we can't offer anything to a player unless the Storm release them first?

I just can't see them releasing any of Cronk, Smith, Inglis or Slater.

You'd think they'll either need to release one of them (who are on big money) or a couple of lesser, but still good players like Hoffman, Blair, Manu, and White.

Agreed.

Read an interesting piece of information somewhere which I hadn't thought of.

For every player released by the Storm, the club has to replace that player with another on atleast $55k. So say Storm want to release 5 players from their top 25 to get back under the cap. They will have to release $975k. Almost a million dollars worth of talent.
