What do the Dragons need?

I'll be frank I'm quite happy with our results this year considering the quality of what we were up against. But, what do we need moving forward. We know we have the second best nursery for league in Australia and we are not short of money (although NEWS Ltd have bought this years comp). For my money we need the following:
1) A TRUE 5/8. Barrett was good but he was never in the class of a Lockyer or a Fittler. He was more a strong running centre.
2) A healthy halfback. Matty Head never really made his way into the team all year and his "super-sub" role was over-played in my opinion.
3) A consistently high quality kicking game. This is where Melbourne killed us with 60 metre kicks on the end of every other set.
4) A full-time top-class hooker. Aaron Gorrell was good but I can't see him improving if Woolford is coming in to the club.
5) Some basic defensive drills for Gasnier. We've ditched Best now we still need Gaz to stay in the line. That third try killed us.

I honestly believe we are ok for everything else (props and fullback too).

I think we will really travel well once we get a 5/8 that gels well with our style. Barrett had a shocker tonight. Not that he didnt have a go, but more because he looked too indecisive. His centres didnt even know what he was going to do.

Second thing to move foward is getting a smooth passing hooker in Woolford. Will lead us well up front.

Thats about it I think. Tonight we were caught out with ridiculous ref decisions that led to tries and a flawed gameplan. Why, why why why why! did we keep trying to go wide, when we were opening them up around the ruck? Who knows, but I think we really need a senior coaching director to help brown out. He is a good coach, but at times his gameday decisions have stuffed us up, like tonight.

Ohwell. finishing in the top 4 for the second year in a row cannot be considered bad.

They had plenty of ticker. They just don't know what to do when things go wrong. And for my part I don't have an answer for what they could have done either.

I thought they were rattled when they couldn't play their natural game brought on by Melbourne three-in-every-tackle style of defence. Together with losing Greenshields meant we had our worst combo, Barrett-Head, in the halves.

That said if Gorrell gets that try, we could be talking a different story today.

2 strips from Bailey - 2 scrums - 2 tried directly from scrums

would of been a massive turn around

My liver realised what was going to happen when Saints started to lose. It decided to remind me of my poor drinking ability when I hit Central Station and I couldn't find any bins...

He is a good coach, but at times his gameday decisions have stuffed us up, like tonight.

As much as I detest Phil Gould, I do think that Brown should have listened to him regarding the short passes around the ruck. I mean, Parramatta did not win, but if Brown watched the performance from Parra, he would have seen that the only time the Eels threatened was when they were giving short passes around the ruck. Gould basically told everyone how to beat them by stating that you bring the Melbourne defence in on each other with that type of attack, and it results in space out wide developing.

Each time Saints went wide, I cringed because I knew we wouldn't score by trying to go around them. Hell, the only reason Cooper scored was because Melbourne didn't count on Sims getting a great offload off.

And don't get me started on the ref. Steven Clarke was a f**king disgrace with his 10. Every set of six there was someone from either side in front of the ref, and when Melbourne defended their own line there was anywhere between 4 - 6 players offside each time. Saints too were offside at times also but it annoys me that the ref did not do anything at all.

Stacey, you try so hard not be a common troll, but then you just can't help yourself... slipping into all those dull nonsensical cliches which we expect from a 13-year-old stuck in an 8-year-old's body.

4th is equal to 14th? Do the math loser.
