Apparently in the early hours of Sunday morning after the Bulldogs played Canberra in Coffs Harbour on Saturday night, police say some Bulldogs players were involved in an "incident".

With *edited-no names in connection to this please* all involved in "incidents" last year, could there be a problem at that club?

Anyone got any idea what this "incident" involved?

If you have a look in the NRL forum, there is a thread there. It was reported on Channel 7 news that some of the players were being questioned over a rape incident.

well actually sully everyone is drawing comparisons with the allegations about the rape in NZ when the sharks were in town

but then again our club was entirely cleared of them

and the bulldogs seem to have a real problem behaving themselves

What is it with the Dogs? Neither their fans nor players can act properly in public.

It's always something...

Personally, i dont believe anything. Dogs players and Cronulla players were also accused of rape/harrasment over the last 2 years...No one convicted

Who knows about the validity of the claim

Lets not judge it too quickly, there have been many examples in the past where people have made complaints about famous people in desperate attempts to get big payouts

Dogs players were accused of it last year as well. Nothing has been proven, whats to say we won't be cleared? Its nothing new for a famous person to be accused of something they didn't do

A snippet from Roy Masters smh article http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/23/1077497518516.html

This scenario has been repeated so often at the start of football seasons there is a danger our eyes will develop the kind of double glazing recommended for energy efficiency. Except that it is so serious, particularly with the Coffs Harbour woman having been taken to hospital in an ambulance. For some clubs it might be a case of "been there, read that" but does it have to take a police charge to have players wake up?

i wonder what these *edit* actually did to her

Has a footballer ever learned from their mistakes? It's quite amazing that the same allegations have occured in the very same hotel as last year.

I like Manly's idea of a minder to steer players out of situations they might regret. Manly have some ex cop who tails them at functions and looks for warning signs.

It's a good idea, but how often would he be minding the players?

Listen guys, I getting reports from all over the forum that some posts are over speculating.
There's been requests to tone down the allegations and this forum is no different.
Any post which gets reported will be edited or deleted and the same goes for any follow up quotes.
If the over speculation continues, the discussion will be locked or terminated.
Thank you.

Woman accuses Bulldogs of sexual assault
By Jacquelin Magnay and Juan-Carlo Tomas
February 24, 2004

A young woman has accused as many as six Bulldogs rugby league players of sexually assaulting her at a resort, a year after another woman claimed members of the team molested her at the same hotel.

It is the third consecutive year that women have made sexual assault complaints against members of National Rugby League teams, all during pre-season trials. In the latest case, the 20-year-old woman told police the incidents occurred after she met Bulldogs players at Coffs Harbour on Saturday night.

She was taken by ambulance from the Novotel Pacific Bay resort to the Coffs Harbour hospital at 8.30 on Sunday, the morning after the Bulldogs trounced Canberra 30-12. Bulldogs management has interviewed all players on the trip and told them not to talk to anybody, not even wives or managers, about the case.

Last year, the Bulldogs were involved in a police investigation at the same resort after a trial game when a 42-year-old woman claimed she had consensual sex with one player, but woke up having sex with another player, while a third looked on. That case was dropped for lack of evidence.

On Saturday night, Bulldogs players went to a function at the Coffs Harbour Ex-Servicemen's Club at 11pm after their victorious trial game. It is understood the woman met players there and arranged to meet several later at the Plantation nightclub across the road. When they did not turn up, she socialised with other Bulldogs.

Detective Gary McEvoy, from Coffs Harbour police, confirmed the assault investigation and said some players had been interviewed before being allowed to return to Sydney on Sunday night.

"All parties have not been interviewed so it would be inappropriate to make further comment," he said.

Channel Seven reported that one of the incidents may have taken place beside the resort pool.

Pacific Bay resort's general manager, Klaus Gottschalk, said the resort would be happy to hand over its security tapes to police.

Bulldogs chief executive Steve Mortimer said:

"We have been very willing to assist the police with their inquiries. We won't make any further comment."

He has previously threatened to sack players involved in anti-social or loutish behaviour.

The NRL conducts mandatory annual welfare clinics for contracted players. This year's topic is "risky business". Conducted by a policeman, the clinics cover assault, sexual assault, alcohol, drugs and drink-driving.

In 2002, Cronulla Sutherland players were interviewed by New Zealand police following a complaint by a Christchurch hotel worker. No charges were laid.

A bus driver for Pacific City Coaches, John Woodward, who drove the Bulldogs around Coffs Harbour, said: "I was with them most of the time and they were thorough gentlemen."

But vandals scratched the word "f---" on the door of his bus.

I reckon people could go down for this one. If she was taken to a hospital, no doubt she would have been swabbed and rape kitted. DNA doesnt lie, and i think that just about any jurer would struggle to believe that the "alleged" 6 man pile on could have been consensual

DNA makes it a lot easier to investigate - both ways. At this stage it's all (serious) allegation and no evidence. Anything could happen from here.
