Guys, no posts that assume or imply guilt, please. It's all alleged at this stage so don't speculate on guilt or innocence as Willow said.

I agree Gunna Matter, The idea of haveing a minder for the players on away trips is a good idea. Dave the guy who is looking after the manly side is a mate of mine we used to work together, he also played for the Bunnys in the early nineties. He is one bloke I would like to see standing between myself and trouble I'll tell ya.

I like Manly's idea of a minder to steer players out of situations they might regret. Manly have some ex cop who tails them at functions and looks for warning signs.

That'd be cool.

Keep the boys out of mischef and keep away losers from starting any problems.

We should get an ex-SAS bloke. No worries, he'd kick some arse for sure!

With *edited-no names in connection to this please* all involved in "incidents" last year, could there be a problem at that club?

lol could this be the most overzealous edit ever?

i mean i wasnt referring to anything sexual
i was talking about willie mason running from a cab (made the papers, willie admitted it)
mark o'meley pissing on an ATM in cronulla (also made the papers, punished by club)
tricky trindall assaulting a woman at the leagues club (made the papers and the courts)

i see the need to be careful, but well publicised incidents are clearly fair game

"knows what happened"? Good old Ray  Enlighten us with the truth, Ray..

They may be serious claims but there's no evidence of any Canterbury players doing such a thing yet. Innocent until proven guilty.

Bulldogs DNA tests

February 25, 2004

FOUR Bulldogs players have agreed to DNA tests as the young woman alleging she was pack raped at a coastal resort recounted the ordeal to detectives yesterday.

The 20-year-old Coffs Harbour woman spent all day being interviewed by police and broke down as she detailed the allegations.

The woman is determined to pursue her alleged attackers – up to six have been accused of rape and police have interviewed four of them so far.

Police have obtained medical evidence which may support her claims. Four investigations are now under way including one by the NRL which has threatened to throw the Bulldogs out of the competition if its players are found guilty.

"We have the power to de-register players the NRL believes to be guilty of bringing the game into disrepute," NRL boss David Gallop said. Deregistering effectively ends their careers.

Case detectives are expected to travel to Sydney today to interview Bulldogs players. Mr Gallop said the league also could fine the Bulldogs up to $1 million for bringing the game into disrepute.

Last night the woman was taken to a safe house outside of Coffs Harbour where she was being comforted by family, The Daily Telegraph learned.

Police are looking into allegations up to six Bulldogs players assaulted the woman in the pool of the Pacific Bay Resort in the early hours of Sunday.

Yesterday official police records alleged one of the players admitted he had consensual sex with the woman while three others denied playing any role. The victim told police the horrific attack included vaginal, anal and oral sex without her consent.

It emerged a cleaner helped her to a room and police and the ambulance service were called about 9am. One Bulldogs player also showed concern and provided assistance.

A doctor was flown from Sydney and treated her for grazing, bruising and trauma.

DNA tests were taken which are currently at the police forensic laboratories.

The names of four players were offered to police and they were briefly interviewed before leaving the mid-north coast town on Sunday night.

The Bulldogs played Canberra in a trial match on Saturday night and many of the 25-man NRL squad hit the local nightspots.

The woman and her friend met some of the players in town. The alleged victim's friend went to the resort with a player but she had the 20-year-old's wallet.

The alleged victim reportedly accepted a lift with a player to the resort but could not find her friend. She was then allegedly taken to the pool about 6am by up to eight Bulldogs players, pulled in and out of the pool and repeatedly assaulted by at least six players.

The Pacific Bay Resort is a pretty big place and you'd think that there would have been a lot of shouting and screaming, drawing the attention of other people and hence plenty of witnessess, if these claims were true. If there is any truth to the allegations though, the club and its players deserve everything that can be thrown at them, including lengthy prison sentences for those found guilty.

On the surface though, it sounds like she was hanging around the players looking for some fun and that fun turned into something much rougher. That's not to excuse the player/s behaviour, but as a few people have said, these type of allegations have a habit of surfacing at this time of year and I'm sure the police investigations will sort this out fairly quickly.

Well, either way, nothing has been proven yet. It is pointless to speculate but if I was going to then I'd agree with Eskimo. She **may** have got more than she bargained for. It's still wrong though, if that is what happened.

She must have got more than she bargained for

I dont think we should ever talk about an alleged rape victim like that

ESPECIALLY if we already know **unproved facts edited** and ESPECIALLY if she had to go to hospital and ESPECIALLY if she's told her story to the police.

It's not like she's gone and tried to sell her story to the media. **Speculation edited**

Obviously the players are innocent until proven guilty (in the eyes of the law) but I dont think we should make any disparaging comments about the unfortunate young lady, obviously footy groupies exist and should be rightfully sneered at and looked down upon with absolute disregard and disgust, but this could be different altogether.

Bulldogs party ended in woman's screams by pool
By Jessica Halloran and Jacquelin Magnay
February 25, 2004

She was 21 and pretty, having fun on the packed dance floor of the Plantation Hotel in Coffs Harbour.

The Bulldogs and Canberra Raiders were in town, the Raiders great Mal Meninga was busy signing autographs in the sports bar and the music was pumping.

But the alcohol-fuelled evening degenerated quickly in the early hours of Sunday.

A barman at the hotel said it was the "messiest night ever". He saw some of the Bulldogs players groping women near the dance floor, making suggestions about "threesomes". Five players were ejected at 2am after getting into a fight with the women's boyfriends.

"The guys were grabbing girls' bums, shouting drinks, getting [the girls] smashed," the barman said. "They were the ones causing trouble . . . some of the girls had boyfriends."

A couple of the experienced players, Willie Mason and Braith Anasta, sat quietly in the sports bar section of the hotel, minding "their own business" until the sunrise closure.

The evicted players were not allowed back in, the barman said.

"One footballer said: 'Don't you know who I am?'

"I'm like, 'No, I don't know who you are.' "

The Bulldogs were celebrating their 30-12 victory over the Raiders on Saturday. The woman is believed to have met the players at an official post-match function at the Ex-Servicemen's Club.

She left the Plantation with one player in the early hours and they went back to the Bulldogs' accommodation at the Novotel Pacific Bay resort.

But she has told police that after they had been at the resort, six to eight of the Bulldogs players took her to the lower pool area.

Here, she alleges, six of the players sexually assaulted her.

The victim, who is still so distraught that she has yet to fully complete her statement, says the assault was anal, oral and vaginal.

Hotel staff heard her screams for help and she was helped to the reception area and then put in a cloakroom for privacy.

The pool area, about 150 metres away from the main accommodation area, was the site of much partying in the early hours.

A staff member has told colleagues that one woman was performing oral sex on a footballer, while another woman was in the pool and a third was near the water's edge with a handful of players.

So far, one player has admitted he had sexual intercourse with the woman who has made the allegations. Three other players have been interviewed but have denied any involvement.

Police said they were able to talk to only four players because the team was booked on a Sunday afternoon flight back to Sydney.

The woman says she can name one of the perpetrators.

The police incident report says: "There was medical evidence to support the victim's claims in the medical examination. There were numerous people to speak to. Several statements have been obtained from staff at the resort which support both the victim's claims and the version supplied by players."

Coffs Harbour detectives plan to question several Bulldogs players and reinterview others, but they are awaiting medical test results on the alleged victim and completing statements.

A source said it could be two weeks before the detectives flew to Sydney to question players further. It is likely they will be asked to supply DNA swabs.

The woman, who was taken to Coffs Harbour hospital by ambulance on Sunday morning, has been discharged, suffering grazing, bruising and trauma.

The police have retrieved video footage from the Plantation Hotel, but the resort does not have any cameras near the pool where the alleged attacks took place.

National Rugby League's chief executive, David Gallop, said if players were found guilty of a criminal offence then both the club and players involved would face heavy sanctions.

The Bulldogs are investigating breaches of their own code of conduct, devised in consultation with the players after allegations last year at the same resort involving three players and a woman. Under the code, players are not supposed to bring outsiders back to the team hotel.

A new $500,000 club sponsorship deal with Bing Lee may now be in jeopardy.
