What is everyone's impression of Matt Elliot so far?

For me I really like what I'm hearing so far. Great New Player signings (Harry Siejka, Dominique, Lowire & Neilson etc), Coaching Staff (Andrew McFadden, Ruben Wiki, Stacey Jones & Swann, etc) is excellent in all grades. Awesome new Training incentives (3 day camps & Working while training to show what it is like for other sports people) Also helping the community. Or is it just we are hearing more this pre-season than any other pre-season? I'm really feeling confident for next year's NRL season. Or am I being mistaken? Whats everyone's thoughts?

Very happy with what he's done. What I will say though, is going back to the rumour that Kidwell was going to be coach and Elliott basically Football GM, Elliott has done some awesome stuff in the Football GM side of things (getting depth into the roster, aligning the Vulcans into the Warriors system, getting more depth into the support structure and resources, getting the players going back to school for a bit of hard yakka this week), but we're not going to know until say round 8 next year as to how he goes tactically running the team on field.

I'm impressed with what he's done with the off field structures and at least the staff seem to be moving in one direction as a unit which is a good indication of his leadership skills. On field however is too early to judge but with that said I was quite excited about Bluey this time last year so I'm not going to get too far ahead of myself.

Thanks Iafeta. I do understand the proof is in the pudding and that will come at about Round 8 your right. It is just things he has done which you have mentioned really has me thinking they are pointing in the right direction.

I'm impressed with what I have read with the structure and that he doesn't like egos, also signing McFaddin, a few signings in areas that needed depth. I think if what they are saying can be backed up the Warriors will surprise a lot of people. I put my hand up to say I wasn't impressed with Elliott being named as coach but like what he's done this far. Hopefully he can undo 2012 in an off season

Will reserve judgement. Having heard him on radio/TV quite a bit I've never doubted his ability to say the right thing and never questioned that he has a lot of knowledge about the game.

Whether that translates to results on the field remains to be seen.

It's probably fair to say he has talked the talk. Now he has to walk the talk.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. From what I've heard from him give or take the odd eyebrow raising comment, he's been very impressive in interviews, pretty much telling us what we want to hear of course.
So I guess I reserve judgement until I see the team in action, and over the course of a few rounds. IMO loyalty cannot be demanded nor respected after a bad year where the team as a whole, the management, and the coaching let down the club and fans. It needs earning back. There are a few standout players that can hole their heads high after '12, but very few.

Are we talking piercing here?

Agree. For what he's had to do (almost a Football GM mentality), he's done a very good job IMO, the structure is far superior and he's resourced the football department well. Now he needs to prove he can still coach at this level, and thats always been the biggest question around Elliott.

I dont want to think to much about it really, Just looking forward to the season getting under way again. It's going to be interesting (depressing, hopefully not) to see how many points we let in during the first 5 rounds. And where our fitness is at. Cant wait to see the warriors wear a team down with there defence.
