The 'Magpies' will never return to the NRL. Their own men are considering killing them off themselves.

If Balmain go belly up, can Western Suburbs buy the Tigers 'brand' asset? Frankly, this is the most valuable asset of the merger.

And realistically, how many of the old Balmain supporters will continue to support the Tigers if Balmain aren't part of it or have very small ownership of the NRL team? Many will know, but there will be many others and those of the younger generation who wouldn't know the difference, and probably wouldn't care. Just as long as they're still called 'Tigers'.

It's a big assumption that if the Balmain side falls over that the NRL will give a licence to Wests.

Although the south west area of Sydney is unrepresented since the dogs move to homebush it would be crazy to offer the 'vacant' NRL spot to a Sydney team.

And piss off how many fans if the franchise moved away from Sydney? It would be crazy for them to not give it to a Sydney club.

Like it or not, the Wests Tigers bring plenty to the game and the NRL will not want to piss all over that.

How many Wests Tigers fans are there in their late teens/early twenties that have no prior affiliation to either Joint Venture partner?

They arent going to be throwing away 12 years of branding for a popular team in what is a pretty crucial market....

More and more if the members on the official WTs forum being a small sub section of the fan base is anything to go by, and logic tells you it will only increase, and those like myself that were there prior to the JV will only decrease as us old farts drop off slowly but surely

Yep.

They've got a lot of younger supporters on the Bunji Bandwagon that will only start to mature in the next decade or so. When these kids are in their late teens and early 20's, they'll become the backbone of the club from a support point of view. These kids have no idea about the history of the club and probably don't give a crap about the merger.

Just watched a couple of clips about the merge.

It's so long over but you've really got to wonder how far Super League set this game back.

The Wests Tigers forum only allows flag waving children and supporter cliques. It is
very difficult to gauge anything much from there.

Ironically it is the younger Campbelltown zealots that are the biggest impediment to
success at the Tigers.

it held the game stagnant for 15 years, until the real value was unlocked with the latest broadcast rights asset sale.

There are a small minority from BOTH sides of the JV who are holding the WTs back

from the above Roy Masters article

....So, with Balmain unable to pay their share of the call to funds, Wests seized on an opportunity at a recent board meeting to do precisely what St George did years ago when their joint venture partners, the Steelers, could not stump up half of St George Illawarra's debt.
St George demanded the chairmanship of the NRL club and therefore the casting vote at board meetings, breaking the deadlock that arose when the partners could not agree.
On April 18, the Magpies offered Wests Tigers a loan of $1.5 million over three years on the condition Wests have the chairmanship and therefore the casting vote for the period of the loan. Balmain countered with a compromise proposal that both clubs contribute $250,000, plus Balmain pay the outstanding $160,000, with the sums to be advanced within 14 days.
Wests, quite reasonably, said, ''Show me the money'', asking how could Balmain find $410,000 in two weeks when they couldn't produce $160,000 for nine months.

Fifita is tearing it up for he sharks so they missed a trick with letting him go. Koribete has serious issues in defence but ill give him the benefit of the doubt in his first full season

Wests should demand a full time move out to the west with marquee games or Balmain rivarly games at the SFS/Leichardt

Until the board sorts them out, onfield will struggle

Moving out to Campbelltown on a fulltime basis might be a longterm objective of the club but it would be financially ruinous at the moment. It is sufficient to grant the various Wests factions greater managerial control.

The Wests Tigers wont be going anywhere. They are one of the last teams in sydney that would be allowed to die. They are a key cog in the battle for NSW.

The NRL will bail them out if they have to, and im fine with that. There are a number of sydney clubs which would not get the protection for a natural death that the Tigers will get if they need it

Ideally the Wests Tigers should seek some kind of underwriting deal from the NRL guaranteeing income from games in the South West to allow us to move 6 games a season there to start and better engage with the community.

I have my doubts whether any full time move to the South West is financially viable but this would go a long way.
