The Book thief= Geoffrey Rush gets better and better, well cast and acted. I have not read the book, but the story seemed a touch weak. Reminiscent of Life Is Beautiful and The Pianist

If you mean as a person, of course. He was so f**ked up he was almost a charicature. As a character in regards to the movie, it was an awesome character and illustrated the themes well.

That's entirely opinion. Dern, Eijofor and McConaughey have just as good a chance and are probably more deserving. In my opinion Leo was better in Django and Shutter Island at least, but it's silly that there's four separate acting categories anyway and they're the ones everyone makes a big deal about. The Oscars are simply about celebrities jerking each other off.

He played a f**ked up idiot that screams a lot like in every other film. Don't get the hype.

Dude did you actually enjoy wolf of Wall Street?

More to it than just 'screaming and acting like n idiot' his mannerisms in some of the serious dialogue like near the end and even when he was approaching Belfort in the cafe I thought was really well done. Still played to his strengths with the comedy but added a bit more depth into his acting.

I thought Hill was awesome in it. Possibly his best acting I've seen so far (money all was great too)

Leo is the type of actor that would have got in the head of Belfort and really surrounded himself with it so he really gave the character justice and pleased the real life Belfort.

I watched HER last night and was utterly smitten with it

No, it's not science fiction, but nor is it a chick flick either

It is however a commentary on the way that human beings are finding it far easier to "interact" with technology rather than other humans.

Spike Jonze doesn't make a case for why this is so, he merely points out there are many different reasons. Humans are selfish, complicated things with a tendency to change their moods at any given time. This makes interaction difficult and it's no wonder people latch onto things that make them happy and comfortable.

It was also the first film of it's kind that didn't go down the "arrrgghh the computers are going to take over the World and kill us all aghhhhhhh" path.

The tale was a lot more human than that. Deeper, richer, more painful, more uncomfortable, more multi faceted. I really enjoyed it and would only recommend it on the proviso that you understand the pace will be slow at times and as long as you don't mind being challenged to think.
