Watched Million Dollar Arm yesterday, was actually a rather fun movie. Kinda Slumdog Millionaire meets MoneyBall/Jerry Maguire. Sorta. Knowing it is based on a true story makes it all the more entertaining I think. The guy who plays the enthusiastic assistant recruited on a whim in India is a crackup, standout of the film for me.

Also finally got around to watching The Sting tonight, been on my 'to-watch' list for so long and has been sitting on the TV recorder for a couple of months. Definitely a good'un. Cool Hand Luke is next one for tomorrow night I think (also on the movie bucket list and recorded off Sky Movies).

Yeh mate it's a goodun, acting is unbelievable both guys thoroughly deserved their Oscars... Also I wholeheartedly agree about American Hustle it was a snorefest

I saw Transformers: Age of Extinction on Sunday arvo.

I knew what I was getting myself into. At least my 7 year old nephew liked it

Dante's Peak. Holds up really well. Effects are still pretty good and the tension is built up nicely.

Was it you who liked A Serbian Film? :sarcasm:

Yep...that was me.

From a scientific point of view, "Dante's Peak" is a pile of steaming turd.

I tried retrieving my thread from IMDB regarding the obvious scientific deficiencies of the movie but IMDB tends to delete posts that are inactive for some time.

The basic theme of the posts was my criticism of writers, producers and directors of movies such as "Dante's Peak" and their ignorance of basic science.

I thought the 4WD driving over molten lava with tyres popping and still going was hilarious until I saw the clincher.

The aluminium boat puttering across the lake with an aluminium motor and aluminium propeller suddenly loses power after the propeller dissolves! Why didn't the cooling system of the motor AND the f**king boat dissolve as well?

Firstly, aluminium has a passive oxide coating which is impervious to sulphuric (and sulphurous) acid at any temperature or concentration. Secondly, grandma's legs dissolving almost instantaneously is nothing but a crock of shit!

Overall, the movie made me cringe rather than laugh.

But I do agree with you, I understand there is an element of suspending our disbelief while watching but they take it too far

It's a f**king bad movie. When movies try to be realistic and factual, they should just be that.

When you watch something like a Star Wars movie, for instance, you know that the writer's imagination has run wild and you watch the movie for entertainment purposes rather than seeking out a "true story".

From my observation, "Dante's Peak" was based on an event that can very possibly happen in the real world. Why f**k it up impossible slabs of bullshit?

But then again we are talking Hollywood.

I think movies like that don't actually try to be factual or scientifically accurate, but they try to look like they are to the masses who don't know better.

I would hate to see your opinion on 2012 or the day after tomorrow then. Both are amazing films.

2012!!

Wasn't that the movie where the main actors were driving a car along a highway or airstrip at 100 mph with the crust crumbling into oblivion six inches them for about five miles?

Enough said.....
