What now Paul Osborne

Ando can coach no doubt but if he fails next year he should be out on his ear. It's horses for courses and for two years now minus about 8 weeks late last year the players have not responded to his coaching.

I reckon a lot of it happens to be some players bad attitude rubbing off on other players. However seeing that they will not be here next year we will now see where we are at.

Mate, no doubt that is where my mind is at as well, but I don't think he and his supposed lack of tactics is the only problem we are facing nor would I blame it completely for our ladder position.

There are a few things that I think have contributed to making the club mentally soft after the April Revelation. They ended up playing their grand final in the first week of June.

Exactly Stags. Remember in the offseason prior to 2005? Smithy went all out for Thomas Leulai and missed out on him because he was under contract. He then opted to go with the best young halfback in the comp at the time (ie Tim Smith) and we had a great season. In addition we signed Paul Stringer at the cross roads of his career (a bit like Carl Webb)and a player looking for a chance to prove the doubters wrong (ie Tahu). Which in the present is similar to Maitua.

Hardly similar scenarios. Stringer was injury prone but still a solid first grader who'd had enough of Souths. While Tahu was at the peak of his career when we signed him but was sick of playing on the wing at Newcastle. We also signed PJ, Riddell, and Robinson for '05 probably the best year of recruitment we've had excluding the Canterbury foursome in '96.

Which is why I think making Hindmarsh captain has the environment of sameness which we don't need.

Why cant we front-load some contracts for next year to eat up the $500k (or whaterver is left after we have strengthened the squad further), and then go all out to sign a half in 2012 if no options emerge next year (Murry, etc)?
I recall the Dogs did this in the season prior to signing Kimmorley, Hannant, Ennis, etc.

No point paying 34 year olds or fringe first graders over sized contracts....

Webb is a solid first grader who had had enough of the Cowboys too. Don't forget Smithy went into 2005 after not making the semis for 2 consecutive seasons. His head as Ando's in 2011 was on the chopping block.

I believe you can only do than when you're extending current contracts for further seasons. You can't just change the contracts like that.

Yes - and since the Dogs cheated in that way, it has now been outlawed.

The only way to currently do it is to sign someone NEW to a frontloaded contract.

You have to wonder why the club targetted for its most important and vitally needed position -

- A halfback who was under contract at his club
- A halfback who was almost certain to retire
- a five-eighth who had already announced he was retiring
- A wallabies player with a Rugby world cup coming up next year

Not to mention Matt Orford who is under contract already too. Yet we made no attempt at Hodkinson. Very strange.

Which player was off contact worth chasing then ? Would you have gone into a bidding war with the Dogs over Hodgo ?

Gee, we aere pretty damning, and yet no one has come up with a decent 7 that is available, and I don't think Hodko was worth the apparent $275 k paid to him by the Dogs. At least e had a dig at some good ones, and yet some are not satisfied, Moanly lost their half and yet I don't appear to be in the panic mode that some on here are at.

At the end of the day, DA is in control and yet we look at other targets for criticism. Doesn't make sense

Well, if Orford doesn't happen I believe we have no choice but to use Robson and Murray as the No. 7 next year.

We all know what we get with Robson, so if DA thinks Murray can cope with 1st grade, why not give him a go?

well the bloke has been in the NYC system for 3 years, if he's going to be ready for first grade than he will be there next season.
