What should the Dragons do?

What should the Dragons do between now and the first round of 2014? I’d like to see the Dragons do the folloing:

Recruitment
It would be good if we could sign the following players for 2014 and beyond;
Dugan
Cummins
Hastings
Seru
A big tough hard-nosed prop

Coaching Staff
I think everyone knows my view on Price so there is no point in going through the ‘Dice Price’ thing in this thread. Let’s take the view that the Board has decided to sign a top grade Coach for 2015 and keep Price in the position for 2014. How do we make the best of this poor decision?

I think that with the right assistants, things may improve from a coaching point of view. So I think it would be a great idea to recruit a few helpers to work with some of the players and with the team as a whole from this week, through the off season and if necessary during season 2014. Steve Folkes is gone for 2014 and so I believe that it would be a great idea to hire the following people to assist Price in bringing the team back up to its full potential. These assistants would help players work on their strengths and weaknesses and develop combinations in attack and defence:

a. Laurie Daley and Ben Hornby: Provide one to one coaching for the halves and fullbacks in the Club.

b. Mark Coyne and Matt Cooper: Provide one to one coaching for the outside backs in the Club.

c. Warren Ryan and Dean Young: Provide one to one coach for the forwards in the Club.

Administration and Football Management
Doust should be relieved of football management responsibilities and a Football Manager’s position be created. This position is to report to the Board and be given a budget / salary cap to work within. The Football Manager would recruit the Coaching Staff, Recruitment Officer and other management positions. By doing this I believe the Club would benefit by Doust’s dedication to the Club’s financial management and the Football Manager’s dedication to all matters relating to football.

What are your thoughts on this?

Good thoughts in your post champ, but the above dillutes any glimmer of hope in my eyes.
We cant have 2014 as another " building year ".
Your other angles have substance, but Price cant be there next year IMHO.

Westy,
Ryan is brilliant... Yes old school but we need that.
It sounds crazy, but we need a hard nut to gel this mob.
Believe me, having met him, he is one.

Mickey Mickey... sorry to ask.
How do you know ?
And will it be for 2014?

A dragons board member that I'm close with divulged to me a while back that sheens Will be given a 2 year deal w younger coaches beside him then a 2 year coaching directors role. This info only came to after I was really bagging the club in the gym w him .. He's not the type to misinform. He's part of the hierarchy and a serious type..

What about Trent Barrett as an assistant coach. His name appears as an option all over the place.

...is it just me or do others think the likes of Brian Smith, Warren Ryan and Tim Sheens are just dead-set yester-decade ?

When I watch the Roosters in attack for example, there are players set and then in motion A L L over the field; decoy runners, halves, fullback sweeping, others running angles.... it's like going to the Planetarium Display at Sydney Observatory and hitting he hyper-accelerator button on the 3D model of the solar System and watching all the planets and their moons moving in relativity and unison, until one breaks off their assigned orbit and over the try line ...with the ball !

I would have no confidence in either of these men to be the innovators of such plays.

Best done using 1.84- TFLOPS-Graphics card with 8-GB-GDDR5-ultra highspeed systems processor, pizzas and a big screen - and ditch the wire model.

We Need a contemporary Coach who not only can read this stuff but imagines it and writes it.

IF, however, in addition to said contemporary coach one of these great men listed above were employed effectively as a the father figure to help the coach connect young talented (gen Y) rising stars to the rewards of hard work, toughness, the real meaning of matehip and integrity in success in becoming men... well then yes.

That way you have all bases covered.

Coaching director ? Still sounds like semi-retirement to me.

I agree with you but keep being told that I harp on about Price too much. And there has been no real indication from the Club that they will replace Price for the 2014 season. So I thought well what else can we come up with that may make it a real season and not a 'building year'.

Sheens is coming - will be announced within 7 days of the last game!

FFS This will do me if that is the case.Talk about Neil Henry's record at the cowboys what about Sheens?. Plus the fact that he destroyed the tigers with selections & don't forget his fabulous recruitment.Daniel Fitzhenry was his version on prices chase, moving Lawrence into 5/8( chase again all over). Getting rid of Fifita because he thought he was too lazy Hello couldn't he see the talent & potential there. Then signing taquiri,Utai(& plays him in the centres), Blair on huge $ which forced players to be moved on & now anasta. I for one don't want him near our club unless he is just there as a mentor with no say in recruitment or selections. With our vast array of junior talent imagine the damage he could cause with shipping people off to then go & sign overpriced players at the end of their careers.:x
