What to expect early on

We had fast starts in 2015 and 2017 before fading badly.

I’d be happy if we stay in touch of the 8 the first 15 rounds.

Then be peaking about Round 18 when Hunt, Friz, Vaughan, Lomax and Dufty are all on fire and make a run all the way to the semis.

There’s no point being May Premiers all over again.

If the side don't turn up and play out of their skins for this Graeme Langlands testimonial Round 1 clash at Kogarah Jubilee, then they don't deserve to wear the mighty RedV.
John Stanley has given them a history lesson this week on the heroes and feats of the past. They need to channel this into passion and enthusiasm.
I expect and demand a win against the Broncos for Changa's legacy!

Also based on my comment above, I cannot help but think the actual history lesson by John stanley may have very lopsided.
5 minutes on Illawarra with their greatest son Paul McGregor
2 hours on St.George and you wouldn't have touched the surface with Greats & records

Home game VS Broncos, surely we can fire up.

Forwards should out forward their forwards.

Benny Hunt surely doesn't need any more time to play it right, hey after all, he is an international, SOO player and knows the Broncos game.

And Widdop and Jimmy Graham both know any tricks Creeping might try from their World Cup with him.

If we don't win.....i can't see much uphill from there on.

We must win this one.

Everything is in our favour.
Exactly this, everything is in our favour.
Hunt, Widdop and Graham will give Mary inside knowledge into Bennett’s game plan, especially Hunt into the Donkeys game.
No excuses for Mcgenius.
Especially with no injuries and the team he wants.
A loss would be farcical.

We will have to wait until a Graham led player rebellion against the inadequate coach until I get excited, we have the right chess pieces in this squad to go deep, we just have no tactical, strategic, inspiration, think on your feet capacity in the coaches box.

Next week will tell us a lot.
Yes the Broncos will be finely tuned but I just dont see them as strong as in the past. They struggled for the first 40 mins in last weeks trial against the ISP PNG Headhunters actually trailling at half time before clicking in the 2nd half.
Oates is the danger man IMO.
We have superior forwards and halves who should be able to lay a platform for us.
Execution of plays is our biggest hurdle, we look like we are creating, its just the final execution of the play that is not effective ATM. Then closely followed by lapses in defence, especially at marker.
If we can get these right next Thursday it will go a long way to a 1st round win. If not, then it will be a long night.
Interestingly, Sportsbet have us at 1.80 favourites againat the Broncos 2.00
There seems to be a lot of things to get right.
Would like to see gradual improvement rather than hot and cold form.
Nothing more frustrating to watch.

Happy for some hard fought losses, but we need to win 5 from first 8,
6 from first 10....sort of thing.

Can't tolerate slowwww start as in 3 wins 6 losses

Against the Donkeys I’m just hopeful the lack of energy & urgency, evident in the trials, is a thing of the past. I simply cant cop a lack of effort especially after the sh*t that gets sprouted in the media from the team eg. boys are pumped, a good game plan, don’t want to disappoint the fans, blah, blah, blah. Wear the jersey with pride & make every run, tackle & kick count.

And a win of course.

We have Hunt and Graham. That is a plus.
The bench is going to have a big impact on the game.
Bennett against McIdiot. Say no more.

okay

My heart says we will win. I'll leave it at that.

hang on, i thought you'd say no more?

I hope the boys do it for Changa

wait, you didn't leave it at that?

but i can't fault you on the sentiment!

My first post was for getting as many asses out at Kogarah as possible , as well encouraging any of our younger ( not 18 years of age yet ) viewers of this forum .

However I must agree with most when I say it shall depend upon Mary use of the bench so as to ensure that we have plenty of capable players on the field after each interchange
And also Mary's ability to read the play as well as any other 1st grade coach .

A new season , as hard as it is to forget the past , let's try to do so for this the very first game of 2018 . Should the result be disappointing , then we can dissect it with the same relish as a butcher in an abattoir .

I also think we will go a lot better than a lot of people think.
Hopefully we can get a surprise win.
Watching in a caravan at Red Rock hopefully it will be champers
May take 2or 3 rnds to get momentum

Ahhhhhhhhh, Red Rock ............ just north of Coffs Harbour.
Lovely place which l will be passing by within the month.
Love to stop but family awaits in Sydney before stopping off in Port Macquarie on the return trip for a week.
Anyway, Dragons all the way!

I'm always up in Coffs as I have a place just north in Mullaway. And you're right Red Rock - nice part of the world too. Also right _ Go the Dragons!

I expect early on teams will test out our known weaknesses, namely our edges and our marker defence.
If anyone knows how to pick a team apart it's Wayne Bennett and you can expect Bird, Oates, and Roberts to test us out wide from the start and Nikorima, Milford and McCullough to keep our markers and middle on their toes. We have to take full advantage of our stronger pack and play up the middle, use the power game early on before we let Wids and Hunt start heading out wide. Our kicking game will be better than last year - long and short - and we'll need to keep the Broncs down their own end to have a chance in this one.
When Bennett coached us we were very effective at continually running big bodies at the opposition playmakers with B.Scott, Creagh, Costigan etc wearing down the little blokes, sapping their energy. We need to do that against Nikorima and Milford while making sure we shut down both of them and McC if they dart from dummy half.
I'm expecting a very open game, lots of points and hard to pick a winner. Either way I think we'll learn a lot about our team from this - it's probably a good first up test for the boys and coach, a hard game against a top side.
Dragons to ignore our bad record against the Broncs and our worse Thurs night record to win by 8.

Life isn't too bad mate, regardless of what it throws at us.
I just had a colonoscopy and spent the day singing, Moon River!
I'm now looking to engage Slater & Gordon Solicitors to see who l can sue.
I feel violated!
Nah ......... in truth, all is ok as long as we win in a high scoring game.

Heart says Saints x 2.
Head says " chill out dude ".

A little disappointed in the promotion of this game by the club. First game of the season, back at our home ground, 2 gun signings, you think there would be a massive built up both locally, and via social media.

I hope we get 15k plus, but cant see it happening. Yes I also understand its a Thursday night.. My guess is 12k..
