it wasnt a penalty. it was ruled that the charge down wasnt played at. When every other charge down u see in the game is ruled 6 again.

Maxwell got a bit trigger happy, ran in there ready to give a penalty for anything he could before he realised it was a handover as they didn't rule a new set from the Penrith charge down.

Maxwell had warned Hindmarsh when Hayne went down injured in the 79th minute to make sure that the team made quick play the balls in the last minute or he would penalise.

for whatever reason he was keen to add some controversy to the game.

Some very good points raised. Maybe he had some coin on the panthers to win in golden point.

You're an idiot.

some refereeing decisions are really starting to make me wonder. I read a while back that punters are staying away from NRL because refs are deciding games. Some people will tell you it evens out, well I'm waiting

- Souths - first 2 tries awarded no tries that were and cost us the game
- Dogs - up 12-0 after 30 mins and Corey "the thug" payne flops on a tackled Hayne and deliberatly attacks the head of Hayne and somehow the ref and touch judge missed it but I saw it clearly from my seat first time. You know what happens next
- Knights - lose to a penalty goal, awarded for a high shot that wasn't
- Panthers - tonight

I'm sorry, but that is just way too many games

I watch the reply of the no charge down and the guy was attacking the kicker and put his arms up is that not a charge down?

Im a Burt fan but it was simple. He runs into touch, we win. He grounds the ball in-goal, we win. He boots thr ball into the stands, we win. But no he takes the tackle, we form our classic straight line defence and Jennings steals the headlines for an otherwise sh*thouse performance. FMD.

Really only we could lose this game how we did. Every conceivable thing that could go wrong did go wrong. The team doesn't have the mental toughness. Yes we were dudded by the ref. But Even if the decision went against we should not have let them score. We need to focus on the whole game and see how we went wrong over the 80 rather te last few seconds.

doesn't help when the side only has one play maker

Fair enough if Maxwell ruled that Hayne kicked it into someone who didn't play at it - but why didn't he shout that out a bit more clearly??

If Burt had known it was still last tackle he could've punted it into the grandstand or just run it dead.

Even taking the tackle the time should have ran dead, but no, the dick head with the whistle blew time off for no reason.

You think that stuff like that could never possibly go on in rugby league? Ok then...

For a referee to intentionally cause controversey........no I don't.
To incompetently do it.........yes.

The quote you replied to was about there maybe being some coin on particular match elements or results. Your unneccesary personal attack on the guy as your response seemed strange, hence the question of whether you meant to claim that somehow rugby league is immune to stuff that has been known to influence other sports.

The two things that were absolute BS:

Why was 6 again not ruled from an obvious chargedown?
Why was time off signaled?

Oh, and the third thing, why didn't we just present a straight line in defence???

It wasn't unneccesary. I gave my opinion on the comment.
And, if I think he's an idiot because I think his comments were stupid, so be it. Call it a personal attack if you like. No skin off my back.
I'm not saying it won't ever happen, and I've had my doubts in the past (- remember Gary Cook and Greg Hartley?). But has there ever been a proven instance of a corrupt referee in RL? If so, I'm happy to hear it.
My angle was that his comments were more emotionally based than anything that could be backed up with fact. Therefore, stupid.

A mate of mine who follows Manly said to me this morning , the Eels have had no rub of the green in the last 6 or so weeks. He reckons IF they could somehow scrape into the finals , they would cause havoc. I said that they'd left the run too late , but what it did make me think was that we DO have the makings of a talented and successful side , and that they were playing well enough to be at least 8th . So with the addition of some more organisation and a bit of backline thrust , 2012 could well see a resurgence.
It's gonna be all up to SK to make it happen.
