The Devil Next Door - A remarkable true story of an American immigrant who the authorities claimed was Ivan the Terrible, a notorious Nazi death camp manager aka “the butcher of Treblinka".

Fascinating and mysterious. I love these incredible true crime story type shows. It reminds me a bit of that one about the bank robbery bomber guy but on a much larger scale.

This Ukranian American seems like a nice old man with a family. Very normal. He lives in Cleveland during the 80s and one day he’s arrested and eventually deported to Israel to face the charge of being one of the most evil merkins in history. So compelling... could it really be him? If not, how could they have thought it was etc etc. Throw in a crazy, dissident Israeli lawyer and other interesting characters and you’ve got yourself a goodun.

I was gonna mention this one too. I've just finished watching this the other day - actually did the series in one hit. Brilliant doco indeed, I was completely hooked. Highly recommend to others who are into this kind of stuff - well worth a look...

Others I've watched recently.

American Factory. Loved it - About a Chinese company establishing in Ohio after the demise of a GM facility there years before. Don't think I've seen a doco that shows the distinct differences in Chinese and Western Culture (workwise that is) as well as this. Not that either is right or wrong, bad or good - just both are so different..

After Life. Ricky Gervais series. I thought is was pretty good. Dark Comedy but mainly a drama about a guy who's battling after his wife dies. Thats not a spoiler - its apparent right from the outset.

Decoding the Weather Machine. Loved it. Goes into a sensible way of explaining the basics of climate change - causes (factual) and possible ways to mitigate.. in no way a hysterical offering like is smattered all over all forms of media in recent times. If you're interested in a fundamental understanding like I was - it's a great watch..

Been watching “Fastest Car”.. absolutely awesome..

Premise is a match race between 3 “sleeper” cars... which are generally low budget high performance cars - ranging from vans, pickup trucks, station wagons the lot.... and one Supercar (Lamborghini, Ferrari, McClaren etc)

Sleepers are basically cars that might look basic, average or ridiculous but built to absolutely fly...

Drag racing ..

There’s a series of races and the winner of each goes into a 7 car final on the salt flats..

Most of the cars are insane...I try and pick which one I think will win each episode, I’m midway through season 2 and of about 11 episodes I’ve picked 2 right...

If you love racing or cars in general ... it’s a must watch..

Oh yeah.... there’s a Monaro in season 2 also (well, a Pontiac GTO they were rebranded as in the USA)

Witcher. Slow to get into but enjoyed it in the end. Henry Cavill was great as Geralt. Wasn't sold on Yennefer but nude work made up for it.

Dracula. Only watched the first episode and thought it great. The Dracula actor was perfect for it and I loved the main nun.

The West. Documentary (made in the 90’s) on the evolution on the United States from the founding states across to the west coast. The Americans expanse westward, the native Indians, the Mexicans, Spanish, gold rush...

Highly recommend it if you’re either a history buff, or have interest in history. I have learned a lot of stuff I had absolutely no idea about..

Perfect on a rainy Saturday afternoon (which it is here today, unlike Sydney I’ve heard).
