All depends. If you rate it on memberships, supporter numbers, TV ratings, then it's Souths. If you rate it on crowd numbers - Tigers or Bulldogs.

I would say dogs and eels, both well supported and with the dogs, are always on top or if not up there when it comes to away crowds, and we do bring alot with us wherever we are in NSW. Its hard to judge but dogs just ahead of eels for me.

Last i saw South Sydney don't average the most out of the Sydney clubs. TV Ratings? Please (Talking out of your arse), why don't channel 9 show more Souths games?

Eels and Bulldogs by a country mile...

In terms of crowd support its naturally linked to success. This is why it is so difficult to ascertain the relative support for each club.

When the Tigers won in 2005 they had the highest average crowd in Sydney since Parramatta in the mid-80s. That same level of support was sustained for the following two seasons with the Tigers being the highest drawing Sydney club on each occasion. Penny Panthers are another example of bad team turns good for a few seasons and experiences a momentary influx in in crowds.

On the other hand, some teams like the Bulldogs and Roosters have one bad season a decade and it would be difficult to anticipate how their crowds would be affected if they endured a Souths-like situation. Conversely, how many would the Bunnies average if they stayed as title contenders for a period of say 4 years?

For this reason you need to consider dormant support as well as the more obvious indicators such as crowd figures, jersey sales, membership, stadium, media coverage etc...

Ahh, Souths are averaging over 25,000 this season, are they not? 12,500 members? On Channel Nine 6 times in the first 8 rounds? Talk out your arse much?

hahahaha lol Souths have had good crowds for like 2 years outta 25, who gives a f**k about memberships, if it weren't for Russell being a well known actor nobody would've given a sh*t.

Parramatta, Dragons and Canterbury are the three best supported side. Canterbury are the leaders atm just, however that's mainly due to there success, and Parra and Dragons lack of success.

West Tigers are also very popular, however, i'm sure if you add any two sides together they would also be popular lol

your english mate is wrong.

Leeds are the biggest RL club in england by far, not just crowds but money too, then wigan.

wigan are probably more famous.

biggest in sydney?

penrith have the most assets if you include Leagues Clubs, they have assets over $300 million.

if you dont include the Leagues Club and look at just the footy club, its the one with the biggest crowds, so dogs, tigers, souths.

souths and dragons are clearly the most famous

More Dally rubbish as usual...

Biggest club in the UK is Rochdale Hornets.

And the Biggest in Sydney are the Mighty Newtown Jets!

memberships are an important benchmark.

given souths have been poor on the field the way their crowds have shot up after a single good year says they will have the biggest crowds in sydney once their on field performances are as good as sides like the roosters and dogs.

souths havent had the money to compete for players, now they do. crowds and results will follow from that

I think Parra has a vast supporter base but unfortunately so many of them only come out when we're winning.

We will have sh*tty crowds early in the year where we're win-loss-win-loss but later when we're vying for a top four spot or the minor premiership it's Friday night and the stands are packed. Whether the crowds are there or not, the club is always featured heavily on TV and in the press, on sports talkback etc. When the club is winning it is amazing to see just how many fans emerge. I hate to use the word 'bandwagon' but there is a large Eels fanbase out there that is only fully realised with major, ongoing success. Same to some extent for any club, I guess. There are other factors are work: being able to afford going to games, location etc. etc.

That happens with all sides. Apparently Parra and Saints are hugely popular in Brisbane, can anyone confirm this?

Dally, even in the 80's when they had success, money etc they weren't as popular as Parramatta, Canterbury etc I'm not saying Souths aren't popular, they are, but alot of there popularity today is due to the Russell factor.

So many variables to consider. It should come down to who generates the most income and number of memberships.
