When did you start supporting Parra?

I went to games in the late 60's and early 70's with my dad, but was too young to quite understand what was going on.
1975 was when I really got serious.
Attended the Wills Cup Final at the old Sports Ground and it was all up hill from there.

From what I have been told it was around 1973/74 - I thought it was a few years later but I conversation I had just recently has changed my story. My uncle was and still is a huge Parramatta fan and seeing as my mum and I lived with him and his family when I was first born he had a couple of years to get me on the right track before my dad (who is an Easts supporter  ) was able to change my mind. Apparently I used to sit on his lap when I was but a wee fella and listen to the radio with my uncle....... I was only a few months old but I used to go to sleep listening top them play. ;-)

I'm a convert. Due to a family member playing for Newtown I was a Bluebag first & foremost, but because school colours were Blue & Gold & I always held Parra a close second. Then, once Newtown were run into the ground & given the golden handshake, I fell seamlessly into the Eels way of life. Though Newtown will always give me a warm & fuzzy feeling. ;-)

Now with a 7yr old also firmly established into the fold my duty of keeping the supporter base alive is done!

Yeah, much better than an oversized stupid photo of a 3/4 finished stadium of a team managed by a senile "Sir", and home to convicted ex-Leeds racist thugs.

"I wish Champions League was played here"

"I wish Champions League was played here"

But its also home to a future Sir who continually finishes top three in leading goal scorers lists.
As for 3/4 finished stadium, blame the protectionist historians for that row of terraces still being there.

1980,

I was 4 at the time,

My Uncle was up from Victoria, and untills that time I was always being told about VFL and my Dad’s support of the hawks, so my uncle, father and myself went shopping in Blacktown, past the pub to the sports store that used to be run by Tommy Raudonikis.

My Uncle said I could have a sticker of the team I supported, but there wasn't a hawks sticker there and Tommy said he had no VFL stickers only league. So I looked at the league stickers, my Dad a south’s man tried to get me to pick a south’s sticker. Tommy tried to get me to pick the Magpies, but I picked the eels.

And that is how it all started for me.

So, strider, why do you still support parra if all your 'mates' have left? I have seen players leave for a quarter of a century - and wished them well. But still I support the club. Could've easily been a raiders fan under your philosophy.

Can't also see what the hell is wrong with criticism where it's due, and after this week a friggin tonne of it is due! This 'poor coach, poor players, they are trying so hard" is a bloody Souths excuse. But here at parra we have, and in Brian Smith's time, always have had the team to win the comp. He has failed to deliver. Why are you so happy about that?

You might be rapt to see Parra get hammered, Strider, but I aint. And judging by the boos for Brian Smith on Saturday, I'm certainly NOT on my Pat Malone.

BTW, just out of interest, where were you during the 81 GF?

See below.

I was about 6 and we were living in Dundas at the time. I've since moved out of the area, but there's no way I'm joining the latte set.

Blue and gold forever!

Strider, can you actually point out the words to me? For the life of me I cant see anything like what you are alluding to.

Can anyone help the poor boy (see, I resisted from calling you a girl - sorry if you are one).

Have another go, Strider. Or maybe quit while you are behind.

I was born in 1980 and my dad had a Parra jersey waiting for me when I arrived. Sadly that jersey has now been lost, but when my daughter was born in february I made sure I had a jersey waiting for her. It might be bigger than she is, but there's no prouder father in the world when I annoy my wife by putting it on her every game day.

Pre 1977, I was a tigers fan. Not coz I knew anyhting abt footy, It was I liked the Tiger's emblem. Then the '77 grandfinal was when I converted to be a Parra supporter. The reason being was that my Uncle went for the Dragons so I cheered on Parra. Since then, I have been a Parra supporter to this day. (I think this was the game where Cronin missed the sitter. If memory serves me correct, the kick was taken from a little to the left of the goalpost. Then it went to extra time and then a Replay in which we lost.)

I still think I have those footy cards from back then with the light blue and white dotted borders with a pink stick of chewing gum. Coz I definitely had Ray Higgs on one of those cards.

I've been living overseas now for 7 years and I get none of the replays. All they ever show where I am is MELBOURNE STORM. I watch the matches on the NRL.com video gallery. And this forum is my biggest addiction.

Watching the likes of Cronin, Ella, Grothe, Kenny, Sterlo, Pricey (with a weird stance in front of our own goal posts when the opposition kicked for goals) and little Paul Taylor tackling his heart out were the best times for me and Parra.

For the oldies, I still remember Neville Glovers goose step! Hahahaha! and Neil Hunt's big left side step and the bookends.
