When do we call time?

I predict we will be going well enough by mid season that BA will get re-signed. Lack of decent alternatives will probably also be in BA’s favour.

El D and Hiney will shit their pants in anger when it happens.

It's a common enough reaction to shit your pants in fear. But to do it when you're angry would not be a good look.

What I like about Flanagan is:

1. Parra background that knows the systems when they were running well under Smith.

2. Experience and premiership winner.

3. Fantastic recruiter.

4. Looks like someone that’s doesn’t suffer fools.

5. Probably needs a change.
He is a clear standout compared to the shit list of options that others have been throwing around.

I guess the question is whether he wants the challenge of coaching a basket case. I can’t see him coming here.

If the club follows through with the implementation of the review, I reckon eels will be far from a basket case and a pretty attractive option to coach in 2020.

We always have had good financial backing, but in 2020 we wouId have a good structure in place from juniors to seniors, our own NSW cup side, plus we wouId have a few juniors ready for an NRL start (or have had some nrl experience).

Plus we wouId also have a fair chunk of salary cap space as we have a few players off contract. Plus some decent players already contracted.

A new coach wouldn’t have a lot of issues to deal with they probably just have to decide on who to keep and who to chase. And no salary cap issues to sort out, no resourcing issues...etc etc!

Actually it’s probably the best coaching gig currently available.

Big “If” on the implementation. Let’s hope the club delivers some improvements in the next 12-18 months.

If we acquire Flanagan I hope he brings Chad Townsend and Wade Graham with him.

I’d immediately install Graham as the Captain with Alvaro.

What happens between now and then is sure going to sell a lot of DT's. Expectations are high and a few players will be off contract as well. However, 2019 is going to be tough IMO.

I hear Flanagan’s asking price at Cronulla is high and the Sharks are resisiting. It all could come down to money if we want him for 2020.

You put a nice spin on it. But you forgot, we can't compete in the TPA area. That's where premierships are decided these days. Flanagan wouldn't come near us.

why not ?
1. There is arguably greater scrutiny on our club's salary cap given the salary cap debacle a couple of years ago.
2. We don't seem to have any wealthy supporters willing to give us a path to TPAs (i.e. our own Uncle Nick or Porky Morgan).
3. Our brand is pretty shit right now. We are the only club to have salary cap cheated their way to a series of wooden spoons.
4. We are fighting for the scraps in western Sydney with other clubs.
5. We still have a 'sort out the books' approach that has permeated the club since the salary cap dramas.
6. The remaining leaders at our club or not risk takers or even entrepreneurial enough to know how to get us out of the shitty mess we are in.
7. The club cant control its own destiny and the consitutional changes that Max promised don't appear to have been delivered.
8. We have idiot factions looming in the background ready to kick us in the goolies if we do anything remotely risky or contentious that would threaten their attempts to regain power in the future.
9. The majority of our players are mincers.
10. Our coach is struggling.

Sure, we might be able to turn some of this around over time, but that's why we are currently bereft of TPAs and are likely to be for some time yet.
