Yeah, I don't like the way this six again is being implemented, I know why it's there but it's far too arbitrary and open to abuse.
I hate it. It’s a huge blight on the game. How many times do you see a team get pinged for an “infringement“ and then 2 minutes later see the other team (usually a top 8 team) do exactly the same thing, often worse, and get away with it.

True. The NRL has banged on about making the rules as black and white as possible so that rulings will be more consistent, and then introduce the 6 agains which are decided in a manner so arbitrary that it is the greyest area possible.

The six agains have been put in place to help the game flow. Presumably it's much better because there'll be less penalties. Are we seeing less penalties?

Btw, when Grant stripped Rava early in the game, I was yelling "challenge it". Alas, our skipper couldn't hear me.
me too but nothing from the commentators either?. The problem is Dragons are scared these days..our success rate is low
We would of lost that challenge though Rava lost it putting it on the ground but Grant having his hand all over the ball should of been a 6 again or penalty just for that action only

Do we win this game with JDB, Su'a and Lomax playing?

Consider also, the Storm only have (player of significance) Papynhausen out and he has been out all season. So almost full strength.

I said before, green shoots are appearing through the quagmire of crap that we have been used to.

However, the Feagai Freeway is a major concern. Imo it's only cap restrictions that are getting them game time, that's my only explanation for their selections each week.

There was more talking going on amongst the players, particularly when shoring up the goal line defence. I was pissed off with the result but happy with the attitude. The team deserves better and hopefully they know it.

It has already been mentioned that Melbourne had a high completion rate and they were near full strength, we were without key players.

Two games to go. Let's finish the year on a good note.

Well done to supporters in NZ and those heading over for next Friday. Last home game of 2023 is at Kogarah in two weeks.

Melbourne's first three tries were all ref assisted.

In the lead up up the first Melbourne try, Grant stripped the ball against Rava, that got them possession. Then they got away with an obstruction, and a forward pass to boot.
The second/third Melbourne try came on the back of a penalty for 'hand on the ball' - wonderful field position. It was followed by 3 x ref assisted six-agains on our line - thanks to that arbitrary enigma known as ruck infringements. Pretty hard to defend against that.

A short time later we were rucking it out and Melbourne were all over us in the ruck, but no six agains.

Later in the game I noticed ref setting us up for one, calling "held" incredibly early, followed by "six again" when the players didn't break away soon enough.

Yeah, I don't like the way this six again is being implemented, I know why it's there but it's far too arbitrary and open to abuse.

On the upside, the boys never gave up. I thought they won the ruck and deserved to win. That's been the case for the last few weeks.
On top of that I’m pretty sure if that tackle on BH was performed by one of ours the ref would have blown penalty for some bullshit infringement

Two plays that were costly were the lost ball in the play the ball by Rava and Sloane failing to keep the ball in play when Melbourne were kicking for touch after a penalty.

Reading the last few pages, I agree with most here that we put up a good show.

I also concur that the 6 again is way too arbitrary and is killing the game. I would like to see the stats on the season proper v semis/SOO. I bet that the 6 again calls a few and far between.

How many times have I seen a ref call "6 more", then the very next tackle " 6 more" again. In essence its not 6 more, and if a team infringes on the very next tackle that they had been penalised on, why is that not a professional foul ?

Anyway, we were in the game for the full 80.

Mel are only making up the numbers in my view. Pennies, Broncos are way ahead.

I heard on the radio in Afl a goal.umpire stuffed up in the Swans game.
The Afl CEO. came out and said human error.
But the goal umpire will not be involved for the rest of the year.
Unlike NRL.officials get a slap on the wrist and that's it.

Ladies and gents, we can talk about six again, the bunker, the ref etc but we really have to fix up our defence, we cant have it that every time there is a line break it will always practically be a score. For the exciting player that Sloan is he just cant be our FB next year, maybe wing, maybe. As for the Feigai freeway well that is self explanatory, I did watch other games and there were patches in every game where a high level of defence was required, and the better teams handled it with better defensive patterns and players. How many line breaks did we stop yesterday, i cant remember one, but I did notice a lot of arm grabbing, and some embarrassing attempts at trying to stop a try. That is what cost us the game.
