Ah, to a parent, a little locked getaway I can understand.
I'm not a parent, so I have no need to hide away from the world.

well I didn’t want to assume but your casual dismissal of sitting down and doing nothing time didn’t sound parenty to me

The ocean around Sydney is better than it used to be. Bondi cigars are a thing of the past. The people who owned property near the water at Long Bay would've made bank overnight when the offshore outflow was put in because the sewage used to go straight into the water near Boora Point before that. Now the water there is as clean as anywhere else in the region.

I remember when i was kid going to Bondi Beach and you could see the brown stain from the Bondi murk just off shore, never really stopped people swimming at the beach.
Years ago staying at my Grandfathers who lived right near Long Bay Gaol me and my brother took a walk around and ended up at Long Bay beach, the wind was blowing off shore so you could see the stain further out but the water in the bay looked crystal clear so me and my brother had a quick dip there despite the warning signs, cant remember what year it was, think it was maybe 1981 but it was before the deep sea outlet was built there.

Surfing with a bunch of mates at Byron Bay and surf was better than shit hot. But the water was a reddish brown.

Talking to a bunch of locals at the pub that night and they were horrified that we surfed there.

The reddish brown colouration was due the local abbitoir's waste water. 😲

The local abattoir is at Casino, 2 hours away.

I'm talking about the late 1970s, not last week....

Not quite the same reddish brown colour but back in the late 70s or early 80s my parents took us away to Port Macquarie, the first day fishing over on the north beach my brother and i fished while my father caught beach worms, between my brother and i we caught 11 whiting and my father thought great every day is going to be like this so he gave the whiting away to people staying in the holiday units where were staying, the very next day the red tide moved in on the beach, an algal bloom which remained basically for the rest of the holiday, was filthy at my father for giving away the fish my brother and i caught because we would have enjoyed eating them.
Did fish a little bit in the river but not many fish were caught after that

Still think we won’t win it?

The NRL are doing their level best to pick off all the opposition with suspensions….

I still have this notion that I must swim in the Ocean.

Does that make me weird? or just Human?

I cannot go more than year, I know there is plastic heap the size of texas, so much human crap and sharks, that would eat me thinking I was a seal.

Regardless my soul feels better if I go for a body surf.

Now this does not pass on, my daughter hates the ocean. She has always, scared of it, will only swim in a pool.

I lived in Bundaberg once for 6 months, swam in the Ocean every morning. great times

Only if you are wearing a wetsuit. They tend to think you look like a baby seal or dolphin. Most of our attacks and all our recent ones were in winter when surfers are wearing wetsuits.
