The skill levels in the backs are pretty appalling Rich. Apart from their inability to crisply pull off any set moves (of which there are about two). In regards to attack:

a) None of them, including our hookers, seem to be able to pass ball even moderately well ie lower chest high, in front of moving player).
b) None have the speed and footwork to SIMPLY get on the outside of their marker, commit the defender outside, and create an overlap. Just once a game by one back would be nice. Called draw and pass. Been used for a century as the most effective and simple attacking move.
c) Few of our backs realize that running onto a pass at pace opens up many options.
d) It is easier and more effective to run through gaps than over 105kg people.

I see no evidence of any effective coaching with our backline. Without Johnson weaving some magic, the rest are complete and utter plodders. Manu is good ONLY because he makes big hard meters to get us out of trouble, and he is an incredibly good finisher close to the line (which makes him awesome for us, but his skill set is limited lets be honest). We should only have one Hurrell or Kata type basher in our backline. The other needs to be more all rounded (ball player, nimble, great defender). And (thus far) I don't think Maumolo is the goods, a poor man's Vatuvei.

this sums it up good

I presume this is what it is all about?

Thanks.........I think

Yeah, watch a clip of Jar Jar Binks talking, then one of Matt Elliott - spot the difference

Glad there is some scrutiny on McFadden finally, he's had a free ride for whatever reason from the media (as have most Warriors coaches tbh) - things do need to change, at the least there needs to be someone there to mentor him - he'd chose Elliott, of course

He had Hurrell available for a match but dropped him and kept Kata over some 'errors'. Kata is even more of an error machine than Hurrell.

I was never a huge fan of Cappy (I think he gets a media and fan scrutiny free ride as his team is sinking faster than the titanic) but that situation was beyond any belief.

And I like Kata, if he irons out his kinks he'll be a bloody good player, but what incentive is there for him when after every stinker he gets another go at having another stinker?

In all fairness, Kata does deserve a level of plaudits in the fact it's very obvious his work ethic continues to get him a spot. So I find it hard to personally criticise a guy who we're all led to believe is doing all he can to be effective. It's just that his confidence seems shot, he's probably physically wrecked after a big rookie workload and giving him a rest would do him no disservice..but he's not getting it.

It's wrong to say Cappy hasn't had options to drop him or pick better sides. He didn't have to pick Peyroux and look how rubbish that turned out. Kata could've gone two weeks ago. Picking Hurrell on the bench proves that. He likes to hold onto the injuries excuse. Hell, he said Leuluai was missed at 9 when our 9 was nigh-on our best player through the decent mid-year run we had.

He was pretty good on the weekend was Kata. I was only watching the game with 80% focus, but seemed like he made his tackles, ran hard, and generally gave it a good nudge. So, okay he had a month of poor execution (not poor effort like others) but after last weekend, I'd say good call to keep him playing. Not a lot of other options really, except the week Hurrell was demoted. Getting your 'confidence' back in first grade is probably better than being dropped (which doesn't help your confidence at all....). No idea what Cappy's theory is though.

You know if the Dragons and Manly both lose this weekend and we somehow win, we will be in 8th equal place. Just saying >_>. Go the Panthers?

Hurrell 10 games 18 errors
Kata 21 games 15 errors

Hurrell was not dropped over "errors" and I'm not sure how many times it has to be said before that sinks in.

I agree Kata has looked burnt out and should have been given a break, but at the same time Hurrell, Peyroux, the always broken Fish/Fusitua, and the backrower pretending to be a winger Maumalo hardly fill me with any confidence either.

I wish Doyle could get talk Whare into coming back to NZ, would be a good addition to our back line. Pipe dream I know

I truly thought John Kirwin and the blues would be the worst it would get for Auckland sports this year.

The most important question is how did we get to this stage. This is a 20 year old organization with Multi-millionaire owners.

Were the warriors the perfect excuse for Eric Watson to get the kiwi sentiment back on his side after Hanover? - I would suggest yes by the lack of effort to properly run this club.

High-tech sports science gear and state of the art gyms mean nothing if the psychology of the top management down to the players is completely void of responsive systems to adversity.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the issue is Wayne Scurrah.

He dumps Ivan, replaces him with a dud, replaces him with another dud, and now we're stuck with potentially yet another dud because we can't possibly risk the possibility of replacing him with another dud.

Scurrah has set our club back 5 years at the very least in an on-field sense. And I guess with Watson/Glenn and the Board having to tick off on not offering Cleary another contract, they've got to wear it as well.

Firstly, are missed tackles included in those errors? I'd expect not.

As for the bold, everyone is saying it's not on field stuff, except for Cappy who's telling bullshit in the press despite the claim he's a salt of the earth straight shooter.
