Where will SBW rank among the game's best ever second rowers?

Two big games - the grand final and world cup final. Played 3 poor halves and 1 great half. It's not a great stat. But I'd rather play with him than against him.

I think that?ll be the word that defines his career

I really think the phrase that defines his career is 'what if'.

What if he didn't leave the Bulldogs? Would he have become a one team player and become one of the true greats? Or did his time in Union make him who he is today? We'll never know, but what we do know is that most of the League community if not the sporting community would have a whole lot more respect for him if he didn't leave.

Wow ... the butthurt is immense! So much jealousy.

SBW was the Kiwis best for the first 60 minutes last night. Then he tried to overplay his hand and made some silly errors. But the stats will back up him being the Kiwis best forward in a very badly beaten side.

Oh well, he had an excrllent Rnd 26 to win the Minor Prem. A brilliant qualifying final, a great Prelim and a game winning second 40 min in the GF.

I suppose even the biggest of big game players can't do it every game!

Well. Shit as he was tonight, Thaiday still outplayed Williams. I'd say that about sums it up.

Raw talent means nothing without the will to apply it and the consistency to display it. Shane Webcke was one of the least naturally gifted props to ever take the field, but he's still one of the best to ever lace on a boot.
Not sure if serious...

Webcke was a supremely talented prop. Incredible leg drive, strength, stamina, a handy off-load and excellent defence.

Unless there's another Shane Webcke out there...

He puts in for the whole game(even with his little brain explosions),
You know you will get 100% commitment & effort.
You cant say the same for SBW.
Yeah as evidenced by his Premiership, PotY Award, unrivalled dedication to training and the culture change his peers partly credit him with due to his professionalism.

If only he gave 100% though!

You mongs need to give up and realise that for the next 10 months at least, SBW reigns supreme and all his haters have NOTHING to cling onto. He's a Premiership winner and the rest is just bullshit so give the epic butthurt a rest.

SBW was the Kiwis best for the first 60 minutes last night by a long way. Then he tried to overplay his hand and made some silly errors. But the stats will back up him being the Kiwis best forward in a very badly beaten side.

Bit of a mixed bag but yeah, he probably was. Made the most metres for the Kiwis (134) but also made the most errors (4)

Yeah those errors all came in the last 15 min. He lost the plot ... mostly out of frustration I suspect. But his metres gained, tackles and off loading (for the first 65 min lol) was excellent. Especially in a team with barely 40% possession and no field position.

SBW has to best best on field in every game he plays, otherwise he is just a hack.

True story

Not to mention Webcke was built like a f**king barrel and hard to wrap tackle

Given that both Wayne Bennet and Shane himself have both acknowledged he's far from a gifted player, not so much.

The point I was making is that Webcke's greatest assets were his mental approach to the game and his consistency. He made his first play of each game with the same effort he'd put into his last play and each one in between, even if injured, even when ahead by 50, even when behind by 50.

Being big wasn't a unique factor; plenty of props are big. The difference was that Webcke never gave up, at least after getting over his early-career nerves.

+1

I do think SBW could put in consistently for the whole game each game though, if he stayed in League for long enough.
I think he is consistent. I think he is a very good player. I think he has the best and most active spin network in RL history, and thinks he is going to do the match winning play with every offload.

I tell you what though, I am tired of watching other players in his side do briliant stuff that gets ignored. Jennings GF try was on of RL history's highlights. All forgotten because SBW was there too.

SBW was the Kiwis best for the first 60 minutes last night.
Does that make him the best forward ever?
Then he tried to overplay his hand and made some silly errors.

Does that make him the best forward ever? On that point - look up bloke called Dick Dunn. Roosters fans should know that story of the 1945 decider.

What's that? Roosters Player of the Year and World Player of the Year
Does that make him the best forward ever?
to go with an instant Premiership in his first season back?
On his own?

Yeah those errors all came in the last 15 min. He lost the plot ...

SBW didn't win a premiership, the roosters did, SBW was a cog in a well engineered machine, a well engineered machine that frankly got pretty lucky as well. Had some nice bounces of the ball and rubs of the green at the right end of the season. They lost to souths 2 out of 3 times and really weren't as good.

I appreciate SBW's talent, if he didn't luck into the premiership, even if the roosters got the spoon, I'd still be arguing he's one of the best in the nrl because I have the capacity to objectively identify and acknowledge genuine talent, but it pisses me off the premiership "proves" to a lot of people he's the best. It doesn't. It's practically irrelevant to the discussion of how good sbw is.

They did? Souths won the season opener, but got smashed when it really counted when they played for the minor premiership in the last round. So that's one all, with Easts winning by far the more important clash. Was there a third game I missed?
