I don't think we can finish 3rd or higher so would it be better to finish

4th to have 2 lives and play Manly or Souths first up

Or finish 5th or 6th play at Mt SMart and play at Mt Smart hopefully win that and play at Mt SMart again

5th is our best and more realistic chance, taking on 8th would be most likely Parra while if we finished 6th and took on 7th it could be the Cowboys or Storm. A loss in week one if we finish top 4 could demount and deflate any chance we have, i.e. I don't think a potential 20 point thrashing at the hands of a near unstoppable Manly or Rabbitohs would do any good when having to face a winner of week one with momentum on their side in an elimination final.

While I'd love us to win this year and it's always a possibility, I think we can learn a lot and make a serious tilt in 2015

Dont you only get the one game at home finishing 5th or 6th. Win first week at home then travel to the loser of either 1v4 or 2v3 homeground?

Doesn't work that way. Finishing 5th gives us a home game the first week, and the next week we play away against a losing top 4 side. Only teams 1 and 2 get multiple home games.

Best place to finish is 4th. Everything to play for with the chance of a week off and home prelim final, but without the expectation of winning. Lose and we get a second life and home game week 2 anyway - still an excellent chance of making the final 4 then.

5th or 6th.

I think there is still a loss in us and I'd be picking it's the last game,, which wouldn't do us any harm at all.

You finish as high as you can...

I don't fancy the warriors beating manly at brookie...

But as I said in another thread... I fancy you blokes beating the rabbits at ANZ...

Then you would have the prelim at Mt Smart/Eden Park

I'm in the finish as high as you can camp.

A second life and a chance at a week off is obviously how Premierships are won.

The Warriors need to redefine themselves in any case.

They need to drop this dark horse tag, reject any jiggery pokery about being in a better position if they lose any game in any NRL season.

They need to redefine themselves as a consistent team, that requires them to be in the top four in regular seasons and for that finish to be the standard.

What happens in the finals thereafter is like a competition within a competition. Regular season forgotten, lower teams have a punchers chance.....top four sides are ranked contenders.

Who wants to be the guy with the bad hair cut and one left hook going into the heavyweight championship of the Rugby league world.

It is time for the Warriors to abandon their idiosyncratic ways.

Put away childish things.

My understanding is Manly wouldn't play a home final at Brookie.... Home city in first round, not home ground.

I may be wrong but...

I'd prefer we get the 2 lives, in the top 4.

Nothing to back it up, but I've always felt that we do better without having a week off when we have built momentum. We seem to be one off those teams that come back from a week off a bit more relaxed mentally.

A second life would be ideal, considering we need to put wins together to make the 8 really. I am a big believer in needing to have a loss fresh in the memory heading in to the finals, but we can't really afford one.

If they don't play to their absolute best from here on in they could be watching the finals on TV.
Mental attitude is paramount.

Yeah we need to realise that we're still a very good chance of missing the eight completely.

We're still some way off the Souths/Manly level even at our peak, so I would say if we hit top gear we should (rightfully) finish between 3rd and 5th

You got plenty to back up the Warriors being better left playing week in week out with momentum, that's our history aye.

Big change under Mcfadden is that the Warriors come out looking sharp after a Bye and anything but flat.

I think the more time they spend with him the better they are.

I think we are greatly disadvantaged this year without the full off season under the coach everyone likes/understands/try's to deliver the game plan for.

So with Mcfadden I have no fear about needing to lose or of taking a week out ( although I understand those sentiments full well )....it's been two years since they were in the finals.

That should be enough motivation for anyone.

Rubbish. We shouldn't be complacent, but the boys would have to really mess up to miss out entirely from here. With the Broncos and Eels both losing, there really is no excuse for not making the finals now, and I'd be devastated if they missed out. Focus from here is getting a top 4 / top 6 position.

Of course the players themselves should have a game by game approach and be focused on the Knights right now. Different story for them :p.

I made that comment before the Broncos and Eels results. Lets say they won and the Knights get one over us (not impossible).

Then lets say we lost next week against the Roosters and the Broncos got past the Knights, bam we're out of the eight.

Thankfully a couple of key results went our way.
We win today and there should be no excuses.

Yep, fair enough then. I feel like we are in the opposite position than normal though - instead of having to think of all these results to go our way to make it, lots of things would have to go against us to miss out.

Really all we have to do is beat the Knights and Titans and we would make it. No excuses already I reckon.

We should make it, we have a great draw... but bottom line for me is we're a borderline 8 team, and haven't imo shown we can compete with the top teams...

Be surprised is the premiership isn't won by Souths, Manly, Roosters or perhaps Melbourne... none of the others are close (again imo).
