Ok, here goes...

I can't remember the name of the school. It was too long ago, and also in Dutch. But it was from Kindergarten.

I was skipped ahead to Year 2 from Kindy. So from Year 2 to Year 4, I went to Lincolcn International Academy in Santiago, Chile.

Then for Years 4 to 5 I went to International School Of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland.

Then from years 6 to 9 I went to Kensington School in Barcelona, Spain.

Then for Years 10 to 12 I went to The Hills Grammar School in Kenthurts, Sydney.

Sounds like me but way more exotic Eele...and less f**ked around

K-1...St Anthony's Wanniassa in Canberra

1-5...St Agatha's Pennant Hills, Sydney

7...Our Lady Queen of Peace, Hendon, Adelaide (my parents put me up a year cos SA schools start High school in year 8)

8-St Michaels College, Henley Beach, Adelaide

8-10...Uplands International School, Penang, Malaysia. (I did half of year 8 again, and then got half way through year 10 due to the different school year.)

10...Oakhill College Castle Hill, Sydney

11-12...Marist College Canberra

I went to Pendle Hill Primary School too. Kindy through till halfway through year 6. Finished in 1995 too I think. It was only a small school so you would have been in my class maybe? A name perhaps???

Sounds absolutely fascinating.

With such a broad range of education, you've probably had the best of all of us.
Maybe HJ will come on and refute that, but I'm including the different and varied cultures that you grew up in, as well as your schooling.
As difficult as it might have been at the time, I think you were very lucky.

Suity

I would have to agree! I mean, it wasn't just the education - I was fortunate enough to learn to speak and write fluent Dutch (although I've forgotten it, because I had nobody to practice it with), and I can now speak, write and read Spanish fluently. Which is handy, because my parents were born in Chile (although they're Australian citizens), my uncles and aunts are all either Argentinian or Chilean (though they all speak fluent English) and ym grandparents, though one of them is Croatian and the other Slovenian, they both speak to us in Spanish. Plus it's good with the ladies to say you speak Spanish. :sarcasm:

But to be honest, the toughest time adjusting that I had was upon my return to Sydney. Coming from Barcelona, where people are just too friendly and open, I found trying to crack the Aussie style of life a bit of a challenge. They weren't as welcoming as the kids were in Spain.

Having said that though, I cannot complain.

Definitely.

Especially if he had the opportunity to learn languages as a child.

When I lived in Sweden I spent 6 months in a fulltime language school for immigrants. One of the girls in my class, an American, had a 6 and a 4 year old and they learned Swedish (in a regular school with Swedish kids) twice as fast as their mother.

But she was by far the worst in our class. But the kids spoke better Swedish than any of the rest of us too.

That is interesting, because it's fascinating and yet true. When we lived in The Netherlands, I was 5 - and I picked the language up quicker than anyone (my dad excepted; the company he worked for was a Dutch company and he's always had a knack for languages, so he already spoke some basic Dutch).

It was lucky I did, too - my mum could understand Dutch but not speak it. So to have a son who spoke it fluently was a blessing. Apparently I spoke it without an accent, even.

how many languages do you speak?

I speak fluent English and Spanish. Some basic Italian and French (enough to get around if I get lost, I guess). And I used to be able to speak fluent Dutch.

I'd also say I speak "beginner's Finnish"...But Finnish is the most ludicrously complex language I've ever seen.
