Which team adds the least to NRL?

But why? I appreciate there is sone animosity there and you know something, that's great. It's what makes league great. It's tribal. But if in 10 years time you found yourself not able to compete where does that leave you?

The Rabbits were rooted before Crowe came along. Your blokes were almost gone. He saved you (along with Holmes a Court) and I'm glad he did. I lol@5(c)uff$ as much as the next bloke but I'm only taking the piss. I never want Souths to fold.

Look at the Roosters. Politis saves their arse every year. He is the Lowie of rugby league. But he is getting on. What happens when he dies? Do you think his kids will take on the challenge. History tells us no.

But a Rabbits/Roosters merger would be super sweet. So much upside including the most important of all, longevity. When my team (St George) merged with Illawarra I was shocked. But I knew that it was tactically sound. Adjoining areas. We even had the same colours! Our merger was perfect. A Rabbits/Roosters merger isn't. But I'm betting that is the best chance for both those clubs in the years to come.

My father was a key member on the 'Save our Souths' board leading into us being dismissed from the competition, and then in the fight for readmission.

The things that he has told me about the Roosters organisation and Nick Politis, and their utter contempt for us in our fight to stay alive, make my blood boil.

I could not be associated with a football team that has any association whatsoever with 'Uncle Nick' and his cronies.

As others have said, it wouldn't work anyway. The relationship between Rabbitohs and Roosters fans is awful. Try sitting between the two sets of fans at the SFS. There's hatred there. Trying to combine the two would create a riot.

And it hurts me to say this, but you wouldn't be missed.
The target market should be the millions of fans who don't know about NRL... Not the sprinkling that do.

Is 20,000 a sprinkling? Because I'd say the other South Sydney paying members would feel the same way.

No offence to your dad but why would Nick want to do anything to save Souths? Can't imagine George doing anything for us if positions were reversed.
As for the club itself, Souths got their hands dirty getting rid of clubs in the past including trying to get rid of us.

To save one of, if not the best and most intense rivalries in rugby league?

To keep the one fixture on the cards that the Roosters ever draw a decent crowd to?

Look at it this way mate, during that episode, Politis just added to the rivalry.
On a side, my brother's father-in-law (a Souths fan) is good mates with Piggins. He reckons George and Nick drink together regularly.

Haha in hindsight, yes, he did.

And I'd find the second bolded hard to believe with some of the run-ins they had back in those days.

I have a new found respect for Politis. Sounds like a good bloke to me.

This is probably the way its going to be for the next few years. Gyngell will make hay while the sun shines.

As soon as the negotiation next round of rights starts, that will change, depending on the landscape.

If the ARLC aren't already investigating how to control the broadcasts themselves via IP TV, which will be massively improved in 5 years time, they they could be in trouble.

Commercial TV, due to its blandness, shit programming and the ability for people to no longer depend on it for news etc will see it go the way of the CD shop.

Internet killed the TV star.

I cancelled Foxtel at Christmas due to moving interstate and I must say that free to air is just pathetic. Nothing at all of substance or value. Not even much of any interest at all.

Fox has Music, Nat Geo, History, The Kardashians and Toddlers in Tiaras. Ok. The last two are the most gaul inducing shit ever to come out of the US, but you get my drift.

Wish I could get standalone Skychannel.

Spot on again......Austar is now a repeat riddled, Americocentric load of shit.

Pawn Stars, Ice Truckers, Jersey Shore, America's Top Catfight......FMD!!

Next stop.....Britney Spears' perference in sanitary pads...........

I didn't believe him either but maybe it's all water under the bridge now, besides, he hates Rusty more I imagine.

Yeah he definitely hates Rusty, he gets in the bloody Tele bleating about it enough.

Side note: Is there an ignore function on this forum so I don't have to read any posts from Fire anymore?

They all add the same amount of value to the NRL. And sometimes in life, value isn't just money.

When Sydney's population is 4.6 million, yes it is a sprinkling.
Less than 0.5% for those playing at home.

Obviously it's a sprinkling in terms of Sydney's entire population. That is stating the bleeding obvious. But we'll never get close to anywhere near that kind of number being rugby league fans.

It is a big number when it's our entire paying supporter base. Well, 80% of it.

You're right, we won't get near that number. But we can try for 5% of the population...

I know comparing NRL to EPL is like comparing a Datsun with a Ferrari, but a lot of EPL clubs have thousands of people on season ticket holder waiting lists (I think Arsenal have around 90k in this category). Way more fans than seats available.

Meanwhile, Souths brag about having 20k members, in a 80k? capacity stadium.
Too many Sydney teams surplus to requirements currently, there just isn't the demand, despite what some may think.
If the NRL are serious about moving away from the suburban grounds, they'll be forced to shed a few teams.

As a staunch Rugby League fan, I'm really surprised how many people on this forum are happy with the status quo...
