Which teams can we put a line through for 09 realistically?

It makes me wonder. At the end of the Grand Final. Is it going to be 9 premiers in 9 years?
I reckon so; Titans, Dragons or possibly Cowboys premiers. You heard it here first.

Knights will make the 8, and if we make the top 6, then we'll make it one week further

i'd be thrilled just to make the finals after missing the last 2 years.

If the Petero injury is true, you can just about write off the Panthers.

I think that's the 8 settled, short of Canberra playing like that every week and replacing Herbert with an inanimate carbon rod.

Herbert was very good against the storm, don't listen to the other demented raiders fans around here.

I'll agree with Mongoose on this one, I think he's copped a much harsher time than he deserves. There were several 5th tackle options where we just put in a territory-finding kick when we could have attacked, but that would be part of a gameplan and I doubt he was the one that came up with the idea.

It's true we now have: Coote, Masada, Elford, Lewis, Petero, Woolnough all out. we will struggle the next month or so Till Lewis returns. but I wouldn't write us off yet. Jennings and Daniela return this week. Our forwards stood up against the Bulldogs minus Petero. We lacked strikepower Jennings and Daniela will fix that. We have coming up:

Eels h, Souths a, Canberra h, Cowboys a, Warriors h. If we can win 3/5 of those games at least which is possible. Then Gordon, Lewis, Elford return and who knows after then.

What about the Eels, Warriors, or Cowboys? ;-)
STFU Timmah :fist:

Ah the old "We Don't Care" factor. None of these matches mean anything until the finals for the teams competing. The Warriors proved out of nowhere it's possible. Knights performances against the Bulldogs or Dragons in early rounds won't determine at all how they could go in the finals...
Nor would our sub-standard performances against the Eels, Warriors or Cowboys ;-)

you can put a line through my mob as well.

Too many lazy players, with the exception of JT, LOD and Payne.
I think we'll have some ball in the finals and that should build a nice platform for next year.

i think the knights at their best could go all the way to the GF.

i think the knights at their worst could get pumped by 70 in the first round of the finals.

the reality is that we have to make it there first, and we're in a massive form slump at the moment. if it's any consolation for us knights fans, this is as good a time as any to have a form slump... as long as the team is firing in the finals. a young and extremely inexperienced team can't stay at the top of their game for a full year (in fact, very few teams, experienced or otherwise can manage that), so mid-year during origin is not a bad time to go through it at all.

i think the knights are a very unknown quantity at the moment. we're unpredictable performers, as is our style of play... and we would make a lot of teams nervous come finals time, especially if we finish higher up than general opinion of our team would suggest.

The Knights are a real threat, they have had a slump before the bye, but they were just in need of a break....that was their 1st bye, like the Dragons...both teams went a long time without a bye.

Given the Knights have another bye up their sleeve, and are currently sitting 5th, they are a real danger in this comp.
They have the attacking ability to match it with the best teams.

I would be ecstatic as my team has missed the last 4 years.

Injuries could just about about kill Penrith's season - only Coote is confirmed as gone for the season, but game breakers such as Lewis and Petero won't be back until the final few rounds.

I've read that 6 wins out the last 10 could be enough... I don't think that'll happen unfortunately. :(

Injuries are about the only thing that I won't blame on how our club is being run. It's nothing more then badluck. Michael Jennings and Petero Civoniceva were both injured during State of Origin. Nothing our club can do about that.

While we've lost a lot of players during club games... most of the time it's just bad luck. Lachlan Coote would have been injured no matter what club he was at with the way David Williams tackled him. He's a small fella and was tackled very awkwardly by a bloke who's fairly strong.

I think Newcastle are playing like a team that could win the GF, but I dont think they can because they arent taking that "step up" when on the field. The team as a whole isnt raising the bar, hitting a bit harder, running a bit faster, playing the ball a bit quicker etc. It was something that would happen to Parramatta when BS coached us.

We always had a team that could get to the finals, but it was always a struggle for us because we would come up against a team that would rise to the occasion, like Brisbane, Canterbury or Newcastle. I see that in Newcastle now.

I said when Brian Smith first left Parra that he is right up there when it comes to rebuilding a club. He makes them strong at all levels, 1st grade and junior levels. He has great structure. But its as if he cant get into his players heads for a particular game.

I wouldnt be suprized if in 3 or 4 years time, the Brian Smith bashing starts again.
