While I was watching Toyota Cup

Last night I watched the replay of the Toyota Cup match against the Dogs. We lost but I do have some observations.

* Albert Kelly who I know has signed with the Sharks has tremendous talent and will make it. His Achilles heel appears to be his defence and at times he goes missing in games. I think we made the right choice in choosing Mortimer over him.

* It's a shame we have let Nathan Gardner go, he would be a very good winger and is extremely quick with a good football instinct.

* The captain of the side, I think his name is Lasalo had a top game. The stumpy front rower, Baiteri was man of the match for the Eels. He was in everything. Reminds me of a Paul Gallen type of player. Surely we have re-signed him ?

* I think Nasso has found his postion at centre, he looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.

* I appreciate that there are people wanting Kingston to stay. I do too. However everyone here should do themselves a favour and watch Anthony Mitchell play. He is all class. His vison and bullet like passes from dummy half and in general play are incredible. I tip that he will be our 14 next year if Kingston ends up leaving.

I love the NYC. I wish they would televise all the games each weekend. Surely more people would watch these games then some of the obscure international sporting crap that is put on. How good would it be to be able to watch your favorite clubs juniors coming through each and every week?

Btw does anyone know if the NRL is getting any tv rights for the NYC yet?. I know that they were saying that the first year was free of rights money to see how it would rate and apparently it has gone really well, out performing even many Super 14 games.

Baitieri, according to stagger is under contract. I have been a big fan for a while now. Isn't a huge player by any means and has played most of the season at lock. He leads the NYC team in metres gained and tackles. Big heart, very tough.

If injury hadn't have intervened at the start of the year, I have no problems in saying he would have made first grade ahead of Kingston and before Mortimer.

Anthony Mitchell has a lot of talent, I think I heard somewhere they were going to try and keep him.

Will be interesting to see not just what Poore, Tahu and Shacks add to the side but the possible inclusion of young guys like Mitchell and Lassio!

our NYC side would have to be the smallest forward pack I have seen

At the moment yes. However we have Auremi, O'Hanlon, Mitchell Johnson and Boyd Brown out injured - all of whom boost the weight of our pack considerably. Allgood's suspension has seen Baitieri moved into prop and Lasalo playing second row after most of the season in the centres.

Yes.

I understand it is something around $2million a year.

Imo Anthony Mitchell is the most talented junior we have followed closely by Gardner.

I am glad we kept one of these boys, even happier it was the most talented one!

Mitchell is the biggest talent since Hayne and Inu hit the scenes IMO, he has been very unlucky with injury but is a very quick dumby half with an great passing game and good vision.
I would have liked to keep Gardner but I guess we already have a very strong backline, I cant say the same for Kelly who is showing he is unable to put more than a handful of game together and atm I'm happy with Mortimers progress.
