Who refused Falonk?

1. Who refused Izzy?

The outstanding form of Israel Folau for the Waratahs should be an embarrassment to those in the NRL responsible for blocking his pathway back to rugby league based on ridiculous salary cap restrictions. For years, Folau's image had been shopped around western Sydney by the AFL as the poster boy of their recruitment drive into league's heartland. When Izzy announced he was leaving the AFL, it should have been a free kick to the NRL to launch a campaign of their own in the same area, trumpeting his return to the game he truly loves. ''No, no, no, no, no,'' said the NRL. Now he is the poster boy of the ARU. Talk about opportunity lost. What a disgrace. Those responsible should be looking for new jobs.

I tend to agree with Gus though. It's a disgrace that he isn't playing RL. Would have been great to see him running around for the Eels. Now the union finally have something to sell - "a free kick" if you like. Schubert is a blight on our game and should have been punted during the recent NRL shake up.

I'm not sure what is most laughably ironic, the fact that the salary cap as it is f**ks more than it fixes or that Union took this long to utilise the up-and-under . . . Izzy could become a League martyr and remove Union blinkers in one fell swoop

He allegedly agreed to terms with Eels but Schubert would not approve the transfer as AFL players apparently command more money in League than the agreed deal.

I want folau in league but don't see how it hurts league to have him kicking butt in union. He's always gonna be our product, its really a league advertisement to have our boys doing well in other codes. It asserts our superiority when nrl players can waltz into the upper eschalon of another sport.
Never understood what the afl were trying to achieve, either cutie and folau were gonna succeed and in doing so humiliate the afl and the professionalism of its athletes, or they'd fail and be a huge waste of money. In the end it was both, good enough in a totally different sport to make the afl look ordinary, but not good enough to help their team or be worth the money.

Union's suffered even more with our ordinary, even crappy players coasting to their respective national sides and standing out.

Its not good for league to not have stars like folau in our game but its something to laud over other codes that our players can transition to their game so easily. Makes the nrl look like a higher level of competition.

Sounds like it was a stuff-up, but what they were worried about was the precedent that Parramatta wanted to use future salary cap moneyt this year. It could have opened a can of worms.

As a follower of the mighty eels, I am happy that he's not at the eels, we don't need backs as much as we need some big boppers up from and a decent hooker first. Get that then waste money on the backs with the pretty moves.

It wasn't allleged he did agree to terms.

Schubert is the scum who has cost not just parra but the NRL of an absolute super star.

Schubert has to go, his time was up when he missed the Storm cap cheating in 2010.

Apparently he is requesting a transfer fee for Rangi Chase be included in the Dragons salary cap, despite this not applying to the Burgess brothers' deals with Souths.

He's now actively preventing Josh Dugan re-joining the league.

And he cost the game Israel Folau, who, despite your thoughts on him (I agree he is a parasite), is a star and belongs in rugby league.

Schubert must go

He scored a few tries against the worst team in the Super Duper 12, as would most RL wingers.

This is the reason rugby league will always be a step behind, a player comes and knocks on your door with the talent Folau has and you make it as hard as possible to do. The AFL made the Folau signing happen within a week thanks to the head office and Union took a week max to take him On as well.

Rugby league needs to step away from the Chook raffle mentality it has and realize it is now a 1 billion dollar game and needs to start to act that way, as Gus said sign him up wack him in a parra jersey and I'd guarantee you every kid would have a number 1 on their jersey for Hayne or 4 for Folau.

I don't like Union but every week I check the score and score sheet for the Waratahs to see if Folau has scored.

The game made a massive error here, I just hope they learn from it.

I heard that Mortimer called up the NRL pleading with them to not register his contract because it wasn't fair to Brisbane / Melbourne / GWS.

Is Folau really helping win fans for the Waratahs? Their home crowds so far this year have averaged 14.1k (worse than Parra's average of 14.6k). Their TV ratings are as poor as always. How is this a win for union???

i dont agree with Pete often but i agree here. if folau really wanted to play league he would have waited another week. i ahve no idea how much he's getting at yawnion nor do i care if he becomes a wannabe.

he's used league as a bargaining chip before and comes across as having very little integrity. i dont care if he never plays league again.

there's a victorian at work who's grown up with AFL but also follows league pretty closely. one thing he's always said to me is that league seems to have this paranoia about players and retaining them. he's pointed at the circus of $bw and folau as examples. we seem to think the game is somehow worse without these players when in fact it continues to thrive. we try and move heaven and earth to get them and keep them when some of these people with dubious character (dugan and carney) should be booted out (ok carney was exiled for a year)

I'd say players like $bw and folau would complement league, they dont make the game what it is. the nrl didnt turn to pieces cos a mercenary cut ran out on his contract. it didnt fall apart because someone wanted to be the poster boy for another code.

BUT shcubert is geniused and the whole restructure of the NRL will hopefully take away his powers of geniusation

from a marketing perspective they're getting plenty of mileage in the press, how it equates to fans, bums on seats i have no idea.
