Doesn’t matter where the highlights are from. They are against opposition who at the time are his equals. Doesn’t always translate but there is a good chance it will. He’s fast, not afraid to contest high balls, and can pass. These attributes won’t change. Once he puts on a bit of muscle and hopefully is given a decent shot to build I’m confident he will be very handy. Hopefully people on here don’t constantly death ride him every time he misses one tackle or drops one ball though. He will have bad games like everyone.
So questioning the hype & how that would translate into NRLperformances is now considered death riding him. Bizarre rationale.

There is no doubt in my mind that the team and the Club as a whole would greatly benefit from the removal of Mary, replaced by Shephard as interim coach and Flanagan as the eventual head-coach. There is even a slight chance that Shephard/Flanagan can turn Norman's attitude around.

We have so many choices for five-eighth now that if we dropped Norman to reserve grade we could look to see who is best suited for the number 6 jumper. I think at this time it is Dufty. Now an experienced first-grader with speed to burn and a very good passing game, he would just have to return to the kicking game he so ably utilized in his junior days. Yes, his defence may be a problem but like Bennett did with Soward, Shephard/Flanagan can do with Dufty. This move should happen asap with Ramsey being slotted into the fullback spot. This season is now dead as far as the Dragons are concerned so we should use future games to test our options.

I’m not accusing you of death riding him, I’m stating that hopefully once he makes fg people don’t expect him to be Tedesco straight away and point out every little thing he does wrong to reinforce their point they don’t rate him. Dragons fans don’t know how to give a bloke a year or two to develop any more than our shitty coach does in my experience.

FLANNO COULD MAKE COACHING COMEBACK IN 2021

The rumblings are growing louder by the day about Shane Flanagan making another push to be allowed to return as an NRL head coach next season.

Flanagan is gaining huge support among the St George Illawarra playing group in his role as an assistant and is tipped to again push to be allowed back next year.

The development most likely spells bad news for St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor who has already had much of his power stripped at the Dragons.

Dragons assistant coach Shane Flanagan could be in line for an early reprieve on his NRL head coaching banSource: AAP
Mary has been under enormous pressure since losing the opening four matches of the season and being forced to adopt a four-man selection committee to pick the Dragons best side every week.

Flanagan was deregistered indefinitely at the end of 2018 after being found to have broken the terms of his 12-month ban in 2014 over the Sharks peptides scandal.

But the Dragons assistant coach enjoys enormous high-profile support from influential figures in Sydney and successfully campaigned to have his indefinite ban reduced.

The NRL opted to allow Flanagan to return as an assistant coach this year with the caveat he is still banned from being a head coach until 2022.

But on the back of the changes made for Sonny Bill Williams, Ricky Leutele and Joseph Suaalii in the past week, expect Flanagan to also make a strong pitch to return next year

Nice if it happened and I think trialling Dufty at 5/8 would be an interesting exercise.
A running 5/8 with his pace would regularly stress defences and his defence can be covered either side of him
I dont see the point of Sailor as he is gone for next year IMO, but he is better than Norman
Hopefully Norman is gone for good. Tell his agent he is reserve grade only here and find him a new home otherwise his value not playing at all or reserve grade goes down further. Happy to pay a few hundred grand to get rid of him.

Sadly we have the peanut still and I cant see it happening unless he is truly coaching in name only

Sack; Norman, Mary, Millward, Aitken, Merrin, Lawrie, K Sims, and Host. Now there is a clean-out leaving us plenty of salary-cap to buy some good players.

Fully agree- I would go further however and trial Aitken as an edge running backrower (with Ford suspended and Sims injured, this is the ideal time) and bring Feagai into the left centre position. The other option is to give Ravalawa a shot in the centres- either has the physical attributes to be the blockbusting runner we were after when we tried to recruit Suli.

McGregor's future back in spotlight at Dragons meeting

St George Illawarra will meet next Tuesday to discuss coach Paul McGregor's future as it grows increasingly likely he won't see out the final year of his deal.

The Dragons unanimously backed McGregor at a meeting following a winless opening four rounds of the season, but the coach's future is again on the agenda as the club looks set to miss the finals for a second consecutive year.

84709084db5ade8404f3d642ae87ea4ad5144d91

Paul McGregor's job is back on the agenda at the Dragons.

The Dragons shook things up after a meeting sparked by the round four loss to Canterbury, shifting McGregor from attack coach to defensive coach and swapping assistant coach Shane Flanagan from defence to attack. There was some initial success but results in recent weeks have fallen away.

Dragons chief executive Ryan Webb confirmed the club would discuss McGregor's future next week, but said a decision had not been made.

"We'll speak about it at the regular board meeting that's coming up next Tuesday," Webb said.

"As we've just fallen out of finals contention, now is the appropriate time to talk about all things football. There's no discussion been had to this point. It is that first discussion that we will have at the board meeting next week.

"In round four, the board supported Paul unanimously and put in the necessary support systems around him to help the team improve. There was obviously a change in our fortunes over a period and [that] gave us a chance to make a run to the finals. As that's dropped off now, it's time to have another look and reassessment of where we are headed."

If the Board is split between the St George faction (against) and the Illawarra faction (for) over Mary's future as Rothfield contends, then a decisive Parra victory is what is desperately needed to embarrass them into acting responsibly and as one to sack Mary and appoint someone like Griffin or at least an interim coach for one year (Shepherd?) pending Flanno's return to Head coaching. We cannot hope to attract any one of quality to the club by telling prospectives that we have a committee coaching and selecting teams -particularly when that committee contains Mary.

Buzz Rothfield believes Paul McGregor will coach his last game for the Dragons this Friday when his team takes on the Eels.

Rothfield revealed on NRL 360 that McGregor’s position would be discussed at the club’s monthly board meeting on Tuesday next week.

“I think Mary’s time is up,” he said.

Round 14
“He’s won eight of his last 31 games... I think the Parramatta game will be his last game.”

Mary facing Dragons exit

Dragons CEO Ryan Webb confirmed to The Daily Telegraph that McGregor’s future will be discussed at the meeting, saying it would be “negligent” to not look at it.

“We wouldn’t be doing the right thing if we didn’t raise it,” he said.

“It would be negligent of us to ignore it.

“Paul knows we will be discussing it at board level now that we’re out of contention for the finals.

“It’s not like we’re doing anything behind his back. It’s now time to have a discussion about it as a group.”

Webb also confirmed that McGregor is aware of the looming discussion.

“He’s got thoughts and feelings. I can’t just walk into the board meeting cold.”

It comes after it was revealed McGregor had lost the support of a number of senior players due to constant changes to the team’s line-up, mainly the merry-go-round of positions million-dollar man Ben Hunt has experienced this season.

“Ben Hunt started at halfback, went to the bench for a month, then went to hooker, then went to halfback, then went to five-eight. There’s no continuity there,” Rothfield said.

“Zac Lomax started the year at fullback, then went to wing, then he went to centre.”

The board discussed McGregor’s future earlier in the season when the Dragons lost to the Bulldogs in what many expected to be the end of his tenure with the club.

McGregor was spared the axe with Webb insisting the under pressure coach had full support of the board.

“When we last spoke about it after round four there was unanimous support on the board for Mary,” Webb said.

“There was no split. It was 100 per cent.

“As a group we haven’t discussed it since. The conversations will roll out this week and we’ll go from there.”

However, Rothfield reports that is not the case this time round.

“I’m told the directors are split. The Wollongong directors are supporting him but those at Kogarah aren't,” he said.

Webb has faced his fair share of challenges since joining the club in March, including the demands of the passionate supporter base who have been on McGregor’s case for years.

“To be honest I’ve had angst pretty much for the four months since I got here,” Webb said.

“Our fans and members are vocal and passionate. It dropped off for a couple of weeks but we’ve got to listen.”

Well Mr Webb. Our angst is more about where we could be/should be as a club given our history, territory, brand and incredible loyal fan base. Following the Dragons has been the one thing I have done all my known life. I'm committed. You have me. 2010 grand final cost me over $1,000.00 with 4 premium seats for my family and I and I'm just an ordinary bloke. I would have paid 5 times that if necessary in what turned out to be one of the greatest days of my life.

I think all available coaches would be lining up for a chance to coach the Saints. It’s the easiest job in the world. You can be useless for your entire tenure at the Dragons, not even look like winning anything, ruin players careers, sign nufties, move on your best talent, and still be guaranteed to have a job year in and year out and be on minimum $800k a year...hell, I’ll put my hand up.

If this is all true I really don’t understand the whole “ your out at the end of the season.” If the senior players have spoken up then surely his position is over now. Leaving him there for the last 6 games just shows how much of a basket case we have become to save some $$$. Can we please end this 6.5 year Benny Hill skit now!!!

If McImposter was in any way honourable he’d act like Dean Pay and Paul Green.
Just leave and allow the club to recover from the detritus created and left by him.
