I like the narrative that the 2020 competition is the easiest we've had in decades. So when Brisbane Broncos win the wooden spoon, it will be in the softest NRL year.

In 1991 it was announced by the NSWRL and the Canberra Raiders that the Raiders had broken the cap in 1990 and were projected to be over the cap for 1991 also. The Raiders copped a big fine and at the end of the 1991 season had to shed players (which saw the departure to other clubs of Glenn Lazarus, Brent Todd, David Barnhill amongst the most notable).

That is the difference. The Broncos were not found to be over the cap.

I don't think it's the shorter rounds that will taint this year's title I think it'll be the fact that clubs won't be affected by SOO usually that stops momentum, creates injuries and teams playing weakened as well as resting players etc.
