Hey Mad Unit, I know you are one for stats etc but I'd like to know what other clubs are paying players to play for other clubs. It seems we are regularly doing it...maybe it is more common than I think but gee how can you balance the books when you do this.

Seems WT are doing this every year. Are the tops sides doing it?

Couldn't tell you mate, sorry.

But you don't see many sides giving their depth players 3 year deals worth 400k to 500k.

As has been said by others, because our club is run so hopelessly, we have to pay overs for every player we get here.

Also, we have a knack of dishing out a lot of 3 and 4 year deals on big coin.

The top clubs don't sign expensive players for 3 or 4 years. They are all 2 years deal with the option in the clubs favour for a third year.

We don't do the option thing for some reason.

Because we PRODUCE players , other clubs just BUY their players as needed with their unlimited brown paper bags , and they usually buy them from clubs like us that develop them :(

This place makes for a refreshing change from the Taylorites on the official site.

Bloke is fixing everything according to them (just give him time, an don't look at the win/loss)

This is what really irks me. Clubs like Tigers and Raiders spend all this time developing players but then have to pay overs just to keep them on the roster. There should be a junior development subsidiary in the salary cap. E.g. each club has an additional 500k a year to spend on players that came through the junior ranks (I'm sure the NRL could draft up specific conditions that would stop clubs rorting the system).

This money could be used to top up salary on players like Woods and Tedesco which we desperately need to keep.

I think a slightly different version of your proposal should be that the NRL agrees to pay half of the local juniors salary.

If rival clubs want to buy these players, they have to pay massive overs.

Longmuir raised it years ago , and zero has been done by the NRL . We might see some change now the Banker is gone, but I doubt it.

from that we got the half arsed modifications on the loyalty discount.

And this season, if farah goes, we will only be getting the discount for Lawrence.

If Farah goes, and we pay say 60% of his salary, we also lose his loyalty discount would would mean we'd only make a fraction of space in the cap compared to Farah's salary.

Which just makes that whole situation even more stupid.

Should've kept Farah on to see out his contract.

He's far from fixing everything, they both need to go IMO (only if we can secure a quality coach to replace JT though,) they've both stunk the place up with this saga.

I don't think it matters now, no one will take Farah on at sizeable coin, so he'll stay with us.

Seems like a whole lot of shit that went down for no change and Farah (via Ayoub,) and the club come off looking worse for it.

Our recruitment and retention has been pretty crook for some time. Occasional good picks eg Ellis and Taupou and bad losses eg Austin but mostly I'd rate out efforts as ineffective, at best just keeping the numbers up / down.

I agree with the thought clubs who develop their own juniors should get some form of recompense when they go elsewhere.

As to the Farah saga, it has become unedifying watch it drag out with no result and all it is doing is sullying everyone's reputation thats involved. Farah can go, Farah can stay, Taylor can stay or be punted too, - no player, or coach, is bigger than the club. But geez, we are looking more and more foolish as days wear on.

Jason Taylor ponders "I wanted Robbie to go he says he is staying. I say he might get a few first grade games if Ballin is injured Robbie says he wants to go. Robbie will stay even though neither he or I want him to.+

Well Stanley, I mean Jason, it certainly is a fine mess you have gotten us in to. "

I was unsuccessful in inserting a photo of Stan Laurel which is a pity because he is Jason Taylor's double
If anyone can help me my choice was

Only problem with this way would be that clubs could just completely murk the system. E.g. We could say that Woods is worth 1 million a year and only pay 500k (which I believe is what we currently pay him). If we did this with all our Junior stars the NRL would be paying millions for our juniors who would be so ridiculously overpriced it would cause an uproar from other clubs.

Perhaps players values should be set by the nrl, or an independent body
