Hi nibbs. Are the Warriors under the cap this year?

lol

seriously...thats a lame joke.

I didnt mind Matty, played a typical game each week and rarely chose on form...but our forward pack has become quite strong thanks to his recruitment.

He did well at bradford with a loaded team, down here not so great although i think we made the finals each season which is a positive. The players loved him so he cant be as bad as indicated by most fans, its just that we want better results.

The Broncos played a boring style of footy last year according to 90% of the people around these parts.

Didn't stop us, did it??

Raiders will be nowhere near the spoon... great value for the top 8 IMO.

There's no doubt that the loss of senior players will hit hard, but Canberra have a talented (albeit young) squad who believe in themselves, are under no pressure from anyone and know how to win the close games.

Raiders fans, enjoy everyone saying you're destined for the wooden spoon... because I know your boys will prove 'em all wrong.

Oh, and get on any other team you like for the wooden spoon. Idiots putting their hard-earned on the green machine have made quite a few sides a great punting prospect.

The team wasn't that loaded - just like Canberra, Bradford brought through a lot of their own juniors, only a few imports. He built on what Brian Smith set up though, and then handed Brian Noble a great side.

As far as his time at Canberra, he was a very middle of the road coach - he did well with the players he had, but he wasn't the man to take us further forward.

Sorry CR2k2, I've left the context of that comment out. It wasn't really a joke....

It was a response to post #17

The way penrith went about "recruiting" elliot was a low act, signing him then dumping lang without so much of a word was pretty disgusting...
i sorta hope it backfires on them and karma wins out..
Dont forget, matt adamson is unpopular with some fans and staff for his part in the axing of royce simmons, maybe this could surface and cause disruption.

canberra have a really crappy squad now. enjoy the wooden spoon this season lol

Mate, listen to yourself. You're saying that the raiders where boring - that's because of Elliot you idiot, there is no point saying it would have been worse without him.

You're going to have a "sleepy" season watching your team run around.

:D

Raiders fans shouldn't get so defensive about people tipping them to come last this year. The squad does look imbalanced in terms of experience and a number of more senior players are not long established within the club - like Best, Dunemann and Logan. I can understand there should be optimism because the likes of Weyman, Learoyd-Lahrs and Carney have alot of potential.

While the Raiders did well last season, they had quite alot of luck to make the 8 winning 4 golden points games was it? and they still were inconsistent beating dragons one week and losing to souths the next. You can't call people idiots to tipping you to come last, someone has to come last. I personally hope Roosters will come last but I doubt it.

Its really hard to predict where teams will finish these days but Canberra would be in my bottom 4. But hypothetically you'll finish somewhere between 1st and 16th ;-)

You gotta love a troll. A poor misinformed foolish troll at that.

Nice try Nibbs, but a wise man would wait until he has results to back his loud mouth.

Some might argue that winning golden point games is not lucky, rather that it shows true grit and the ability to grind out a result in high-pressure situations. Not you obviously.

The inconsistency was, IMO, a lot to do with Elliott's preparation method. Enjoy it this year.

Elliott as a whole is inconsistant, his game plans, his prepairations, his team selections, his use of the interchange... hell even his comedy is inconsistant, as a result our team was inconsistant

.

The two things don't necessarily cancel eachother out. But there's also the flip side where teams lose golden point games and its not always because they were poor under pressure but also refereeing decisions went against them. I recall controversy last year with the Tigers losing two golden point games to you.

Sometimes refereeing decisions go your way, supposedly just as often they'll go against you.

I know I'm a bit biased here, but I think overall the Raiders do very badly at 50/50 decisions. I can only remember one game where the ref was making most of the decisions our way - about 2 seasons ago (pretty sure it was against Cronulla, perhaps Manly?) we had a penalty count of 13-3.

Elliott is an excellent coach with regards to building a tight-knit team that plays for each other. Team spirit and unity is high on his agenda. This can be good, especially for teams with no 'stars' like us. On the flipside of that is he is loathe to drop people and make the hard decisions, for fear of disrupting that unity. His tenure at the Raiders will be marked by the non-dropping of Drew, Bulgarelli etc etc when their form called for it.

The biggest disappointment for me is that his '5 year plan' went nowhere. What Henry is doing now is what Elliott should have done in 2001-02. Fact is Neil Henry would (I'm sure) love some of the talent Elliott had at his disposal - Wiki Davico O'Hara Croker McLinden J. Monaghan M. Monaghan Woolford Schifcofske Smith Mogg - and he still said he was working with a mediocre roster!!!!

I hated the 'talking down' of the side and I'm glad its over. Neil Henry isn't saying our 07 squad will defeat all comers but its pleasing to hear a coach say he is confident he has the troops to do the job.

Oh and Elliott never won a finals match with us, over 5 years. He has to live with that massive underachievement.

You've summed it up perfectly Thickos. I was an Elliot fan, but by the end of his tenure I was getting frustrated at his lack of finals success, and his persistant rant that the Raiders had no stars and lacked the quality of other sides.

He only said this to bluff an already ignorant media and to make himself look better than he really was. Fact is, we had some very good players over the years but nobody in the Sydney media realised that because the Sydney media were so in love with the Sydney teams they forgot that there was a team in the ACT.

In 2003 we were tipped to come near last. Bar a dropped ball, we would have made the GF.
2004, tipped again to be near the bottom..
2005, massive injury toll doomed us all year but we led the comp after about 10 rounds of memory
2006, again tipped to come last but these tips were made in ignorance and without regard to the massive inury toll we had in 2005.
2007, again tipped to come last.

I think I like being the underdog, but 2007 is getting a bit more personal.
