Why do people hate on Mitchell Pearce

Exactly. After 11 straight games as the #7 and no series wins, what ever happened to simply giving someone else a crack? The last 2 series have been winnable imo, and NSW have matched, or near enough, QLD in every other department. Even got over the top of them... but Pearce has failed, sometimes comically, to provide any sort of anything that could be considered a big play, particularly when it mattered. Sometimes we would have even settled for just a play at all.

Give another pair a crack. I think a fit Carney and Mullen is the best NSW have got. Both have good running games, Mullen is one of the best kickers in the comp and Carney is good with the boot. Both have great passing games before and at the line. One is right footed, one left. These 2 both deserve another chance at that level. Both are still young enough to play alongside each other for a while yet if they are winners.

We have a half-decent playmaker, we probably win the last two series. Pearce will get picked again this year and he will do nothing again this year because he doesn't have the ability to perform at SOO level.

Time and time again he fails, yet the f*ckwit Blues selectors keep on picking him. Beacuse it wasn't hard enough playing two games on Qlderp's sh*theap (a venue where we haven't won a single game that matters since 2005 and been absolutely brutalised a number of times), we also have to contend with having a complete passenger in the 7 jersey.

It's not necessarily that he would be better, it's that he should be given a chance to show he is better after Pearce has had 12 games to do that and done nothing.
Carney is tons better than Pearce and Reynolds led the try assists last year and has got Souths to the finals 2 years straight with a great passing and kicking game, although I wouldn't be putting him over Carney or Mullen just yet.

I made a point in the Interstate thread that no other NSW half has ever had 11 straight games as half, let alone being given those games in a series we lost each time. Even great halves like Mortimer, Sterling, Alexander, Hasler and so were dropped after 2 or 3 losses. Even Joey was dropped for Kimmorley after failing to win in 98-99. So why should Pearce get so many chances?

Sums it up...

Fast forward to Origin time, nick87 is glued to the TV watching NSW about to win.. he's screaming "TAKE THAT YOU QLD merkinS"

Canberra Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles are the only teams capable of invoking that level of response from me in game.

Thread asking the wrong question. The real question is "why is there anyone that doesn't hate Mitchell Pearce?"

Some are asking who's better than Pearce.

Todd Carney is better. Infinitely better.

That's not to say Todd Carney is a world beater either. But he can play no.7 & he's easily better than Pearce.

Its a no f**kin brainer for mine.

Pearce has had so many shots at origin level and has done nothing. Its time to give someone with more raw talent a go.

Todd Carney is not even a halfback but that is beside the point, Carney has never performed in big games and his defence alone would concede 3 or 4 tries.

I diss on him because i think he's a player in the mold of Jeff Robson who only gets given every opportunity to play rep football when he's time and again proven he's not at that echelon of talent is because of daddy dearest who was a mong anyway, but a tough mong

Reynold's clearly isn't the answer nor is Shitcell,IMO put Mullen in the 7 and say Hayne in the 6 with Stewart at 1 and Farah at 9

It won't be perfect but why give a repeated failure yet another year?

Anyway,Origin is dead so who really gives a toss anyway?

Interesting comments on young junior from people's whose ability in anything could be written on the back of a postage stamp with room to spare. I have no doubt that Junior and BBQ will combine well to bring the SOO shield home to the true Rugby League heartland(NSW)- Selectors need to pick better forwards especially 4 true frontrowers not make shift ones like Bird and Gallon they always seem to slot into these positions.

Oh look another Roosters gimp. Of course he is going to have an objective opinion about a Souths player.

Oh and clearly Marshall has loads of rugby league talent since we aren't allowed to comment on Pearce but he's allowed to tell the selectors they are wrong.

Yeah, our forwards are shit eh? It's not good enough that they stand up and at times out-muscle Queensland, THEY need to win it for us.

You speaking about objectivity, now that's rich having seen a lot of your posts around you're one of the biggest agenda pushers going around.

Thinking Adam Reynolds is a good ball player is just ridiculous, speak about his wonderful kicking game, his ability to maintain pressure, push his side round the park, execute game plans, whatever you want but complimenting his ball playing shows either how little you've actually seen of him or how little attention you actually pay when you do watch him. Has nothing to do with who he plays for he just lacks the vision to ever be a good ball player and it's not really a skill you can develop players just either have it or they don't.

It's definitely the most clueless statement I've read in the past week and it was always going to be tough to top Fifita's comments.

Lol, when did I ever say my opinion was objective? It's an opinion, of course it's subjective.
And yes, you are hating on a player simply because he plays for Souths.

Because you say so? As if your first comment wasn't ignorant enough you think you know my motives for forming opinions.

And fwiw I don't hate Reynolds, he seems like a well grounded bloke.

He's just not a ball players asshole, has never displayed the ability to play into or through the line, has no vision & his ability to pick up forwards running overs/unders lines is non-existent. Amazingly good kicking game, does a good job of pushing his side around the park, distributes well & doesn't over play his hand. In an era where good halfbacks are a rarity he more than deserves his status as a first grade halfback but he's nothing more.

If you could just find ONE of these forwards who had a short kicking game (Qld has 3rd man),then maybe their hard work would be rewarded with a repeat set occasionally .
Would be nice to keep the pressure on QLD for a few sets.
So one of these forwards has to start playmaking, because obviously it is not the NO 7s responsibility.

To be fair NSW need to dominate in the forwards to win.

Even in those game Pearce has been a passenger for mine.

He is a fine club level player, no doubt sticking to a predetermined structure and doing what is required. He does not have that spark required to take advantage of forwards winning the battle however.

Regardless that is a month or so away from mattering

In most games, if a team's forwards are not dominating a halfback is not going to be able to do anything. I mean how many people were blowing up here last year about the efforts of some of the NSW forwards in games 2 and 3, especially Aaron Woods? Do people want to tell me that in game 3 last year Robbie Farah did not overplay his hand?

Also Springs, what is the point of listing the halves and five eights you do when most oif them are ineligible to play for NSW in Origin?

As to hahagold saying he failed stand up in the Grand Final. Right, and Aiden Guerra passed the ball to himself to go through the Manly defensive line untouched to score in the second half which got the Roosters back into the game

If your problem is because of Pearce's selection in the NSW team, is that his fault? Last time I looked he was not part of the NSW Team of Selectors. I suggest you focus blame at those who select the team.

Having watched Robbie Farah in most games since his SG Ball days I can say Robbie does over play his hand when his halves disappear. If the halves are strong Robbie is at his best and sticks to his job save for injecting himself when required like any top shelf hooker does.

As for blame if you look at my other comments in this thread you will see the words "I blame the selectors"
