Why does Rugby League endlessly shoot itself in the foot?

I don't give a f**k. The sychofantic way some tossers on here defend the ridiculous way this game is run requires some serious rebuttal. If gallop or moffatt or any other admin had been in charge these same people would be carrying on a treat. But because they decided early on they had a hard on for the suits and the banker they will make up any excuse and any bullshit to support them. It's the same reactionary, out of touch, directionless rabble but with a Helen Lovejoy attitude and a bigger spin department. And if that's not bad enough, they get away with it because limp wristed fanbois let them.

They did a great job in Tassie eh? Or have you forgotten you gave a shit about that? No wonder the admin gets away with murder.

The Grand Final was rubbish because there were no shoulder charges or punches.:sarcasm:

We have to accept the requirements of the community now,or go the way of the dodo.

The issue with this is you people live in a f**king fantasy land. We based the shoulder charge decision on the lawsuits of a foreign sport that still allows shoulder charges, meanwhile we're inventing 'community standards' of a community that has a fairly universal hard-on for Ronda Rousey, a woman who makes a living belting six shades of shit out of other women.

But for what it's worth, punching doesn't matter anyway. It's a non-issue in terms of rules. Sin-bin it, whatever. As long as you ALSO actually use the sin-bin and send-off for cheating and dangerous tackles. If the sin-bin was used regularly the issue would balance itself out. The baffling thing is how the NRL even managed to influence players to change, considering it was always penalised, likely to be a sinbin, and a good chance of a suspension anyway before the 'crackdown'.

The real issue is the penalising (and lately suspending) of solid, fair hits because they might come close to being a type of tackle that might go wrong, while catty behaviour flourishes because players won't throw one anymore and refs are either unable to or too gutless to do something about it.

The attitude of appealing to modern 'community standards' is that it attracts exactly zero new fans while pushing away old fans. It's not a positive outcome. Old fans being full of positivity and enthsuiasm towards the game brings in new fans.

I remember it well. Affiliated states train wreck. But I am not going to let that blind me to the fact the game is heading in the right direction now and smith did fine. As for here in tassie it's easily fixed with the right model. Sadly nobody in sydney cares. I was speaking to a jersey supplier last week and he could not believe what has happened here. He said victoria is going gangbusters with 5 new clubs in the past three years and over 100 junior teams now .similar groth is possible here but we have been treated terribly.

The affiliated states is exactly that. It is not a body that runs anything except rep games. The NRL f**ked up and continue to ignore the issue. Just like so many others. Problem is, the suits have realised you only have give the pretense of growing the game by making more TV money, even though almost all of it disappears straight into the pockets of elite players and managers just as soon as it comes in. As long as they do this the fanbois will kneel down and lap it up. There is actually no growth in any other area of the sport, including sponsorship, even though these suits are supposed to be corporate marvels.

I agree with a lot of that. But the game grows in vic and elsewhere because it is such a great game and its increased profile in the so called affiliated states has created a demand for it. When we get that right the sky is the limit. This will require a broom through the place and a real commitment to growth in states like mine

In some areas. In others, not so much. For the most part, good though.

non-broadcast revenue has grown 48% in three years, just last year sponsorship increased by 12% ($3m).
