Why does Sydney media hate rugby league?

And I keep asking the same question, can anyone name a single GWS player?

Even the biggest RL haters would probably at least know the names of Thurston, Gallen, Cameron Smith

AFL has very few genuine star players which is what really attracts people to a sport. Its just a sea of tall, slender blokes in singlets, mostly white caucasian that all basically perform the same role on the field. It needs all the media help it can get.

Should of seen yourself watching the Offsiders, then seen yourself typing your critic of watching them publicly masturbate over their growing dominance in our market place. What a genius.

When will you morons learn. Give them nothing. That's what they do and all you dickheads do is whinge like victims while supporting their shameful bias vomiting crap.

Give them nothing. Only watch, click, read or listen to pro league stuff. Anything else just feeds them with victories over the NRL's ineptitude in managing our game correctly. Imagine if virtually no one watched that show from the Eastern States? How long do you think it would last in its current format or at all?

Grow some discipline people. This is a war. Behave like it. Stop being traitors!

The difference is champ,I actually spent a few minute emailing them ,giving them my thoughts in a rather blunt fashion.Taxpayer funded(some of my money) and biased, and blatantly so.
Perhaps if more did the same,we may get some balance.Sitting on ones a*se doing nothing, gets nothing.

Wrong question really. Just because the Storm have had the luck and luxury of the services of those three for over a decade, be it a positive thing for the Storm overall, it is hardly a true indication as to the popularity of League in Victoria.

A truer barometer would be how many 1st grade players have the Storm actually produce in their almost 20 years history? Even further to that, non Islander or NZ players, considering that it is a given that it really isn't a conversion if these guys are playing league.

Vs

How many 1st graders have come out of both NSW and QLD by the AFL?

Also how many 25k+, 30k+, 40k+, 50k+, 60k+, and 70k+ crowds have the Storm had down in Melbourne in their history, compared to the Swans and Giants in theirs?

You will quickly come to the realization that we are losing this war inch by inch. We have been totally under funded and under resourced from the start and nothing has changed or will change with the lot we have running our game today. They just don't have the skills or fight that the other lot do.

I suspect that the AFL will be the equal or more dominate sport in our States within the next 30 years. You may scoff and attack me for this view, but it is what it is. We haven't put up much of a fight against a determined enemy, so victory will be theirs. What other outcome could there possibly be if we won't even fight. To think otherwise is just plain delusional.

Just remember, kids of today are what counts. You don't so much. We have abandoned our children, you know the NSW and QLD AFL supporters of tomorrow.

Yeah sure champ, how's that working for you? You're just arse covering for you own stupid folly. You know as well as anybody that they couldn't give a rats arse. Your tax $$ are well spent no matter what your opinion as long as you keep watching. That's all that matters, the rest can be spun as doing a public service and keeping a sport honest. It is what I would do if I was producing/hosting the show from a RL bias.

Like I said, these guys a indirectly on the AFL teat. You're just a number to them, your opinion doesn't count.

It's a war. Wake up!!!!!!!!!!

Keep sitting on your ample a*se and let the world go by.And the code will end up like Parra did this year down the ladder.

My protest is with my clicker, yours is by watching and contributing to their AFL fest. Guess which one is more effective numbnuts?

There are a lot of people in the Sydney media ( and all areas of Sydney business)who grew up in AFL areas originally and have moved to Sydney to further their careers. Sydney born people don't generally move to Adelaide, Launceston or Ballarat to further their careers but the opposite is obviously true...

Of course you also have a lot of media in Sydney that may have attended private schools originally and grew up with Yawnion or soccer as their first love and just see their reporting on RL as a job and not a passion...

You obviously never heard of the fact sometimes, if sufficient people get off their a*ses and say something, something might get done or the message may sink in.
I'm paying for some of their crap, that gives me and you entitlement to do whatever.
It may not happen most of the time, but sometimes people listen.Thats why commercial TV has a complaints area where you can lodge a complaint .

Who knows what will happen in the future. Somehow I don't think a Melbourne centric game without any international presence to speak of is going to be the dominant code in NSW/QLD though. And for all the headlines, back pages, big crowds etc etc the AFL may get in Sydney hardly anyone can name a GWS player except for hardcore AFL folk. AFL players have no profile in NSW/QLD, even Buddy Franklin is only popular with the scarf wearing latte set in the east.

I have been on these forums for 13 years and people all that time have been predicting the NRL's demise and AFL taking over in NSW and Qld.

When was the last time one code of football replaced another football code as the No 1 choice any where in the world?

They are clearly positing themselves as Australia's national game. They don't have to dominate in west Sydney or regional nsw to do that, they just need to have successful clubs and Jnr development in Sydney, having two clubs now and seeing experiences like we saw at ANZ this week would suggest they are positioning themselves very well for their long term strategy. They have the nsw media in their pocket now. perception is everything.
Having put their efforts into Sydney in recent years you can guarantee Brisbane/GC will be next they turn their attention to.

We are badly losing this war. NRL should be going on the front foot and taking the battle to afl, introduce a second Brisbane club, seriously fund storm and NRLvictoria, get media management sorted out, develop a long term plan for Perth and Adelaide, sort out Sydney scheduling etc etc. it's hard to see where the nrl's strategy is in this battle.

The afl has cupboards loaded with skeletons.

The Sydney media will not be complicit in burying problems like Melbourne's media has been.
Things will just get more difficult and expensive for the afl, especially now the NRL has freed itself from news ownership and has a massive TV deal that pretty much equals the afl one, without the money pits that the afl has to prop up, all while weakening their heartland clubs to give a false impression of strength in their extremely expensive expansion clubs, who still have terrible ratings. You think the TV stations will continue to throw money at things nobody watches?

It's a Sydney tabloid culture, more English in origin than the sycophantic Melbourne press. You will know AFL has made it in Sydney when the media start to dig for dirt. In the meantime, the rainbows & lollipops are just paid propaganda, or ammunition to troll the NRL, it's as artificial as their 'competition'. The AFL should really just be considered a PR firm.

Union in Australia should be a cautionary tale for the NRL in so far as the game shouldn't be complacent. The NRL need to be more bold.

Funny thing is if RL did die, what would these journos do for work? Can you imagine Rothfield trying to find another job with his Beetroot cheeks
